“Bandits Thr£atened to K+ll Abd¥cted Oyo Pupils and Teachers If Troops Moved Closer” — Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa
Nigeria’s Minister of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, has disclosed that the abductors of the Oyo schoolchildren thr£atened to k+ll all the victims if security forces attempted to move closer to their hideout, saying the criminals were using the children as bargaining chips to , secure the release of some of their commanders in military custody.
Speaking during an interview on News Central TV, Musa also addressed concerns over military funding, acknowledging that while more resources are needed, the welfare of soldiers has improved significantly. According to him, the monthly salary of an average soldier has increased from about ₦49,000 to ₦100,000.
Explaining the delay in rescuing the abducted pupils, he said, “They’ve thr£atened that if we come any closer, they’re going to k+ll all the kids.” He added that the kidn@ppers believe holding the children for ransom could pressure the military into releasing some of their commanders.
Musa also backed calls for tougher punishment for kidn@ppers, including the d+ath penalty, saying, “There must be deterrence. The laws are soft, and that’s why people take advantage. If they know once you commit an offence, there must be punishment. Let justice prevail.”
