It's not that people hate Boruto. They hate how Naruto is represented in Boruto. A lot of Naruto fans don't actually have a problem with Boruto as a character. Their issue is that the story often makes Naruto feel weaker, less competent, and as though his era has to be diminished just to elevate the next generation. I genuinely think the reception would've been much better if Naruto had remained at his peak while Boruto gradually grew into his own strength. Or better yet, if the series had been set several generations later instead of immediately after Naruto's story. Fans barely had time to appreciate Naruto's ending. We got The Last, where he was strong enough to overcome a moon-level threat, and then almost immediately we were in Boruto. Before people could fully enjoy seeing Naruto in his prime, the story was already moving toward taking his power away. Then there are scenes that leave fans scratching their heads. Take the fight against Delta. She repeatedly tried to absorb Naruto's Rasengan but couldn't absorb all of its chakra. Naruto responded with a massive Rasengan, defeated her, and then collapsed looking completely drained. For many fans, that felt inconsistent. This is the same Naruto who fought throughout the Fourth Great Ninja War, shared enormous amounts of chakra with an entire alliance, battled multiple god-tier opponents, and kept going. So naturally people ask: why does defeating Delta suddenly leave him exhausted? The criticism isn't only about power. It's also about experience. Against Momoshiki, Boruto was the one reminding Naruto not to use ninjutsu because Momoshiki could absorb it. But this is Naruto—a veteran who has spent his life adapting to enemies with unusual and unpredictable abilities. Then there's the fight against Isshiki, where it often feels like Sasuke is the one analyzing the situation and explaining what needs to be done while Naruto simply follows along. Moments like these make some fans feel that Naruto's battle IQ and experience are being downplayed. That's why so many Naruto fans criticize Boruto. It's not because they hate Boruto. It's because they don't like seeing Naruto portrayed as less capable than the character they spent years watching struggle, grow, and ultimately become Hokage. And the biggest proof of that? Many of those same critics still watch Boruto whenever Naruto is involved or gets a major moment. That tells me the problem was never Boruto's existence. It was always the way Naruto was handled.
