Excited for Kiersten Jewell and Dylan Raney to present their research @GMU_COS Undergrad Research Symposium today. Dylan examined long term trends in Potomac River invertebrate communities. Kiersten explored seasonal patterns of parasites in estuarine shrimp and crabs. @PEREC_GMU

A huge thank you to Ella Ahti from @LukeFinland for giving a guest lecture in our Invasive Species in Scandinavia course @UniTurku. Ella discussed the value and utility of @Vieraslajit, a one-of-a-kind online platform to identify, report, and control invasive species in Finland.

Shared our research on the impacts of the mud crab invasion in the Baltic Sea with local Turku high school students today. The students enjoyed seeing live crabs and preserved invertebrates @ESPMasonU @FulbrightFIN @PEREC_GMU @UniTurku

Yesterday we celebrated @cityofturku Turku Day, which has been celebrated since 1961. Among other things, we walked through the @UniTurku's Botanical Gardens and their beautiful greenhouse. Afterward, we saw fire jugglers followed by fireworks downtown! @FulbrightFIN

I loved my stay @UniTurku's Archipelago Research Institue on Seili island. Permanently inhabited since the 1300s, Seili was a leper colony, hospital, mental asylum, field station, & now tourist destination. It's beautiful location means easy access to the 🦀! @FulbrightFIN

Had a wonderful time in Helsinki learning more about Finland's culture and people. Kiitos to @FulbrightFIN staff for organizing everything and for our parting gifts, including the Kalevala, Finland's saga! Excited to see everyone in Oct for the American Voices seminar.

Excited for the @FulbrightFIN Orientation Program in Helsinki! With other Fulbrighters, we are learning more about Finland: networking, policy, language, & culture. We ended the day with sauna and swimming, followed by dinner. What a nice way to meet everyone! #FinnishWelcome

@TheGoodnight94, our lab's postdoc, touched down in Finland yesterday. We made our way to @UniTurku's Archipelago Research Station today via the ferry to set up some mud crab functional response experiments! @FulbrightFIN @GMU_COS @ESPMasonU

First day of field work in the Archipelago Sea on the island of Orhisaari with Dr. Veijo Jormalainen & his students @UniTurku. We are exploring the ecosystem impacts of invasive mud crabs. It is intense field work, but the scenery and company are amazing! @FulbrightFIN @GMU_COS

Finland's Everyone's Rights allow you to freely pick wild berries, mushrooms and plants, except for a few protected species. With collaborators and friends, we've been picking blueberries, raspberries, and chanterelle mushrooms in the forest. What a fun and relaxing activity!

We loved our trip to Iceland. We were able to find some wonderful natural hot springs to bathe in before leaving tomorrow morning for Finland!
