The thing I love about my love for video games is the diversity. I love the aesthetics and gameplay of a game like Hollow Knight or Astro Bot as much as I love making deliveries in the beautiful Death Stranding 2 or being scared to death in Alan Wake 2. I love games. ❤️‍🩹🎮

It's a day late but I just hit five years at Insomniac Games. Hard to believe it's been half a decade working alongside this fantastic team and community. Still doesn't feel real, even now. But it's very real and I'm very much not dreading getting older... at all.

I mean. I played TLOU Part 1 more than 10 or 12 times and I still cry at some of the scenes. I also play the E3 demo way. Always. I can't believe how people rush through those things sometimes.

I would've gone viral by my reaction at this whole ending. Truly legendary stuff. Went from pure excitementent to a pool of tears. Hell, I might go viral at my reaction at so many games, I truly get caught up in the moment and I become the best version of myself when I play.

As of right now, Born Again feels like a flawed attempt to recapture that same spark without the soul that made it. Almost as a greatest hits collection. Like that feeling of "rewatching a film from your childhood only to realize it wasn't as good" made as a TV Show.

Saying this because I just rewatched the first time Matt and Fisk came face to face and I was at the edge of my seat. And it was a 2 minute interaction. The way the scene was made was flawless. The tension building. The acting. The way every shot was framed...

I'll definitely come back to this tweet later. But no matter how gpod Born Again becomes later down the line, there's a charm the original has that Born Again will never be able to capture. The writing and cinematography are impecable. Every detail perfectly crafted...

@JNavok This is incredibly effed up, tho. Even with human localization, some games have passable translations because of the lack of context given. Give that to an AI and it will be horrendous! Hopefully they still have some QA Localization.

Translation is the tip of the spear in AI replacement in games. Code still needs coders and AI art isn’t very effective yet but LLM translation passes the test of “not perfect but good enough in most cases” and is fast to implement and put into your pipeline. The LLM loc is also faster than a human. Localization in the game business will mostly be Loc QA going forward rather than translation. People who did full time text translation should consider training in a new field ASAP. We will see the below play out across a wide swath of the industry in games, film, TV and books by the end of 2027. AI won’t replace some parts of games, but outsourcing will. I addressed this yesterday. Too many people want to bury their heads in the sand thinking the danger will pass. It won’t. Plan for the new future now. You don’t want to be caught as the last person rushing off the ship if your role (design, programming, art) can be done by someone in Southeast Asia for less than California or Washington State wages. Do the training and planning now while you can. And don’t fall for the siren song of unionization. Ship building, textile manufacturing, furniture making, electronics manufacturing were all unionized industries. They are gone. Unions did not prevent this. Globalization of game talent and AI will result in the jobs being closed or outsourced. The unions cannot stop this in games just as they didn’t stop it in all the other US industries that collapsed. There will still be opportunities for indies, small teams, and exceptional talent. But there’s only one public gaming company left in the United States! And who knows how long it will be before MENA takes T2 off the table. ATVI now part of MS, EA under PIF. Future public companies like Scopely also taken off the board. Public companies are traditionally the most stable way to wealth and employment for white collar workers. The lack of a pipeline for new public companies in the US for games is indicative of the change in value chain. Roblox is swallowing a lot of this value as we shift to a network effects ecosystem, and this trend will continue. And Roblox games won’t use translators for their AI games, just like how YouTube auto translates any video you upload into any language you want and no one bats an eye.

I will never be convinced that "Red Dead 2 has bad gameplay" The immersive mechanics and linear mission design were both perfect and are why so many missions are memorable. The movement is immersive, just walking around feels grounded, and it never once felt "clunky" to me🤷‍♂️
