@Chesedgirl @Romy_Holland Bad Moms! :) But Romy is wrong… According to CHH, sleeping with your baby is bad. So is the baby sleeping on his/her own. Also bad is a basket next to your bed. There is NO good choice! You’re always BAD.

I appreciate @Romy_Holland 's example because now I know that mom-posting will get you even more hate than slut-posting. If I ever have a parenting take I'm going to slap myself in the face and write something about anal prep instead

@Romy_Holland @dr_souse @Romy_Holland - 4 yo rarely have any follow-through. He/she’ll be sound asleep when it was time to execute his/her dastardly plot. If he/she tries to wake up the baby right away (screaming, say) punish as you would any other infraction.

yeah i’ve seen kids i’ve nannied for do things with no clear right answer. i once saw a 4yo demand to sleep in his parents room. the mom said no and he looked her dead in the eye and said “i’ll wake up the baby if you make me sleep in my room.” sure you can then apply some sort of punishment but a 4yo is not a super reasonable person and will probably still wake up the baby?

i feel immense satisfaction from being the ideal mother figure to my baby. i love it when he’s a little unsure about something and i get to reassure him and then he feels all safe. it feels so good to intuitively know why he’s upset and easily fix it. i love how he looks to me for interaction and knows i’ll always make him giggle. i think parenting gets much harder from here and i’m nervous about my own blind spots. being a mom is such a high stakes role and i just wanna get it right. it feels almost fucked up that i created an entirely new person whose wellbeing is dependent on my competence at a job i’ve never had before now.

going to prison for a crime i didn’t commit is one of my top irrational fears, followed by going to prison for a crime i did commit. weirdly enough these are extremely different situations.

Sorry, but happy relationships involve communicating about your wants and needs Wanting someone to just magically read your mind probably means you aren’t mature enough for a relationship

This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.

@Aella_Girl Je-sus. People here are like “you know what, I’ll side with the wannabe kidnapper & murderer in the name of Law and Order”… and their tweets get likes! Cutting edge belief - Even if you disagree with someone, murder is off limit, yeah?

On the topic of sex worker rights: one time a guy tried to kidnap (and prob murder) me cause I was a sex worker. They gave him a plea deal for only 5 years (!!!). He accepted. And then when it came to final sentencing the judge was like 'actually let's just give him 18 months'.

I want to know what your #1 criteria for a partner is. (I already have mine in mind but don’t want to bias the convo, so I’ll share later.) If you had to select a life partner on just one trait, what would it be & why?

@Romy_Holland They’re probably lying about why they don’t want children. But “ my job is too important” feels like a more socially acceptable response to them? Especially if they can’t pull the “we’re too poor” card…

i’m increasingly confused and annoyed by people who aren’t planning to have kids because they want to focus on their work or projects or whatever. first of all, you can obviously do both. the literal vice president of america is about to have a new baby. i think you’ll manage at your email job or whatever. second, whatever you’re doing isn’t more important than continuing the human race. it’s just not. it turns out the only reason humanity got this far is because a lot of people before us did the hard thing of raising children and it’s incredibly fucking lame of you to just be like “ehh sounds inconvenient and difficult.” yeah dude, ofc it is. welcome to existence, we’re sustaining a species here, how about you get involved??

@Romy_Holland I’d like to challenge your conclusions. People are very right about assuming children will have a massive impact on their freedom and that seems like the main reason they don’t have kids

i feel like a lot more people would have kids if the narrative wasn’t “as a mother you may never again do anything for yourself, even if your child is happy and safe and well cared for while you are doing it.” parenthood involves a ton of sacrifice, but it feels like some parents start to believe that it is the sacrifice itself that makes them good parents and this is wrong.

(On tweets escaping containment) I’m honestly more annoyed when people on here try to tell me I’m being “exploited” (by dynamics I actively chose), vs when people straight up call me a monster. At least the later ascribes me some agency!

@Pandora_Delaney Also funny is so many comments about “exploitation”. Like, there are a few advantages to being older such as “having your shit together”. Along with the inconvenient of (on average) being less fit. Can’t we trust adults to make informed choices about pros and cons?!

When I was 24, I felt inexplicably called to expand my age range on tinder to 40. I matched with exactly one guy before giving up the afternoon-long experiment. His profile was better than the available age appropriate men and the banter was effortless. We met for a lunch date near campus. It was very stilted at first. I didn’t naturally feel comfortable with the transgression of dating someone 16 years older. (And he was married with two kids.) After lunch we went for a walk and the vibe gradually recovered. By the end of the date, there was just barely sufficient rapport for him to risk kissing me. He kissed me and I felt high. I tried to ride my bike home afterwards but I fell in the middle of a crosswalk. It was one of maybe 2 times I had such a fall throughout all of grad school. My brain was basically offline. This was one of the biggest turnarounds I’ve ever experienced in the course of a date, and he’d later tease me about it. We dated for five years, all through covid and the birth of his 3rd kid. I went skiing and camping and to the beach with his whole family. I want what he has with his wife, but with my primary partner.

One of my exes used to play Cigarettes After Sex pretty much every time we had sex. I recently heard one of my housemates playing Apocalypse and started crying. Even though I don’t think of this ex most days, I was flooded with memories of the years of love. Grief isn’t linear.
