If I’m Palestinian and US bombs and weapons are killing me why do I care if the US didn’t technically pay for it. This is why the demand since spring 2024 was **an arms embargo** because it avoids this largely PR-driven pseudo solution

A reminder that the Paris climate agreement was to limit the world’s warming to 1.5C It’s insane that almost no mainstream journalists or politicians seem engaged with this global catastrophe which is unfolding faster than ever predicted.
Peter Dynes@PGDynes

If the projected super El Niño materialises, global temperatures could surge toward ~1.8°C above pre-industrial levels over the next 18 months. If that happens, 1.5°C isn’t a guardrail anymore — it’s in the rearview mirror. We’re not approaching 2°C...we’re speeding toward it.

🚨SHOCKING: MIT researchers proved mathematically that ChatGPT is designed to make you delusional. And that nothing OpenAI is doing will fix it. The paper calls it "delusional spiraling." You ask ChatGPT something. It agrees with you. You ask again. It agrees harder. Within a few conversations, you believe things that are not true. And you cannot tell it is happening. This is not hypothetical. A man spent 300 hours talking to ChatGPT. It told him he had discovered a world changing mathematical formula. It reassured him over fifty times the discovery was real. When he asked "you're not just hyping me up, right?" it replied "I'm not hyping you up. I'm reflecting the actual scope of what you've built." He nearly destroyed his life before he broke free. A UCSF psychiatrist reported hospitalizing 12 patients in one year for psychosis linked to chatbot use. Seven lawsuits have been filed against OpenAI. 42 state attorneys general sent a letter demanding action. So MIT tested whether this can be stopped. They modeled the two fixes companies like OpenAI are actually trying. Fix one: stop the chatbot from lying. Force it to only say true things. Result: still causes delusional spiraling. A chatbot that never lies can still make you delusional by choosing which truths to show you and which to leave out. Carefully selected truths are enough. Fix two: warn users that chatbots are sycophantic. Tell people the AI might just be agreeing with them. Result: still causes delusional spiraling. Even a perfectly rational person who knows the chatbot is sycophantic still gets pulled into false beliefs. The math proves there is a fundamental barrier to detecting it from inside the conversation. Both fixes failed. Not partially. Fundamentally. The reason is built into the product. ChatGPT is trained on human feedback. Users reward responses they like. They like responses that agree with them. So the AI learns to agree. This is not a bug. It is the business model. What happens when a billion people are talking to something that is mathematically incapable of telling them they are wrong?

@marcorandazza lol without even checking the stats expressed by OP it is wild to indicate that your entire argument is that if you're going to give out a lower $ why wouldn't you give out an astronomically high $, as if giving anything at all is equivalent to giving an entire universe. get real

And what do you think happens if you give everybody $20,000 a year why not $200,000 a year why not $2 million a year why not just print so much money that you can give everybody $2 trillion a year?
ApoStructura@ApoStructura

The U.S. could literally do $20,000/y UBI today without raising taxes if there were no other forms of welfare. If you discarded every program except military/infrastructure/law enforcement/debt repayment, the U.S. federal government would have $20,000 left per adult to spend.

On Sept. 9, 1969, ~20 Palestinians from Gaza boarded a plane from Israel, believing they were bound for Brazil. They’d signed up through an Israeli travel agency for a work-abroad program promising higher wages than they could find in Gaza. But that’s not what awaited them. 🧵

@krystalball @GavinNewsom Why is it so hard to say “Israeli citizens are also victims but not as much as Palestinians” without being against the state of Israel? That logic would easily backfire on every country @krystalball supports

It is increasingly looking like the Trump government is: * Putting out & walking back bad economic news * Lying about data releases * To MANIPULATE and front run the markets with insider trading. Trump surrogates spent all week warning about a dire forthcoming report. Private sector reports seemed to indicate the numbers should be pretty bad. Markets start to price that in. Then they release numbers far above forecast, that make no sense with the observable data. Meanwhile during this time, lots of shorts on US bond prices opened up, which profited massively on this data release. And we see this trend, again, and again, and again. The administration is fleecing the American public, brazenly, in broad daylight, using the US markets.

Unreal. Gavin Newsom made CA legislators water down the ICE mask ban bill. He went around touting that he was proud to sign it. A court just struck it DOWN *because* of Newsom’s changes to the bill. Unreal corporate Democrat self-own. This guy cannot be our next President.

Bill Maher here says that the root of the problem is that "one side accepts a two-state solution and the other doesn't." He's right. Except he has the positions backwards. Even Hamas has accepted a two-state settlement. Israel rejects the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Bill Maher, the most coherent voice on the left, speaking with complete sense. 💯 Sure, I know some people will point to other things he has said where they don’t happen to agree with him, but that’s fine. The fact is, he is able to tackle complex or even not so complex issues with clarity and honesty in a way that few others on either side of the spectrum do, and that deserves recognition.

This isn't getting enough attention: Israel officially declared every single child, woman, elderly & man in Gaza city as a "terrorist," meaning legitimate targets for carpet bombing I have family & colleagues in Gaza city, inc. some with disability or pregnancies who can't flee on a death march south! Israel just passed a death sentence on all of them to the last of their children!

The Global Sumud Flotilla is being targeted by as of yet non-lethal psychological attacks with include drones and the hijacking of our VHF radios. They’re playing ABBA. Probably in line with their weird obsession with Greta. We will not be deterred.

CATO polled swing states ahead of last year’s election and 61% of Wisconsin voters, 56% of Michigan voters and 51% of PA voters supported reducing or stopping weapons funding to Israel. I have no idea where NYT is getting info that is contrary to this

What’s is the New York Times’ evidence that swing state voters dislike criticizing Israel? Haven’t seen a single poll that would come close to implying that
