@kawaii_sampler @NotATeslaApp HW4 is the driving computer and has nothing to do with the infotainment system. At the moment, the latest and most advanced chip Tesla installs in its vehicles for infotainment is AMD.

The main reason Tesla is doing this is that when you sell something, you must fulfill all the promises you made at the time of sale. With subscriptions, on the other hand, you can always change the terms of what the service offers or will offer.

Anyone saying this isn’t necessary is wrong. If the rumor is true and Tesla adds support for the car key in Apple Wallet, you’d be able to unlock your car even when your iPhone’s battery is dead. It would work offline, without any network connection or Bluetooth. Since I rely on my iPhone as my key for unlocking and driving, this feature would be incredibly useful.

If you have unlimited data, Tesla Premium Connectivity isn’t really necessary. I use an iPhone shortcut that automatically turns on my hotspot when my phone connects to the car. Works perfectly. Quick heads-up: don’t set another shortcut to turn the hotspot off when Bluetooth disconnects. Opening YouTube or Disney+ in Theater mode disconnects Bluetooth and your hotspot shuts off. Also, if you want other devices to connect to your hotspot, make sure “Maximize Compatibility” is enabled in iPhone hotspot settings. If you want, I can create a short video showing how to do it. It’s super easy.
