Small PRs are easier to review, faster to merge, and thus higher velocity than trying to land large ones that could have been split up.

You don't kill your ego, so your onboarding goes a bit rough. It drags out for a few months, you're on track for your first performance review being "doesn't meet expectations".

Your goal is to assimilate quickly to becoming a productive team member, no matter how many questions need to be asked. Humility and killing your ego ensures that you make a good first impression. This is the first step in accumulating the social capital necessary to get promoted, push technical direction changes, and grow your reputation. But before all that, you need to onboard and prove you can be competent in your new role.

Onboarding successfully is an exercise in killing your ego. As a new grad, there's a lot you don't know and have yet to learn, you might be afraid of failing or seeming too novice. As someone who has worked a few jobs, you'll have pride in the work you've already done, experience you bring, you might have fear of starting from the bottom again or seeming below the senior level you were hired at. At every step, your ego will try to protect itself by convincing you that asking for help is an untenable sign of weakness. Or by prompting you to scoff at how the team and company does things, and how it's so different than the "right way" that your last company did things. And maybe you're right. But maybe not.
