A longitudinal study of 47 players at a top Spanish academy used bone-age data to classify biological maturation, with career outcomes tracked 15 years later. Late maturers reached professional football at 30.8% vs. 5.6% for early maturers. Every player from the cohort competing in a top 5 European league at follow-up belonged to the late-maturing group.
