The Scottish Parliament’s Health, Social Care and Sport Committee has recommended against the Right to Recovery Bill despite the Parliament’s own consultation showing that almost 80 per cent of respondents supported it. We always knew this would be an uphill fight. But let’s be clear: if MSPs are serious about rights, then they should back enforceable rights. Not vague aspirations. Not hollow promises. Rights that people can actually use. If they are so confident in the system they champion, then let them put their money where their mouth is: mandate those rights in law, or at the very least embed them in binding guidance. Otherwise, it is smoke and mirrors. The truth is, this Bill was never going to pass through committee. The make-up of that committee, and the witnesses chosen, predetermined the outcome. But the fight was always about exposing that reality and keeping the pressure on for genuine, accessible rights to recovery. .open.substack.com/pub/theglasgow…
