Once hand-tracking gets better at understanding overlapping hands, I hope we'll start to see the 'buttons floating next to your hand' UI trope in AR become 'buttons on your palm' so that you have a surface against which to press.

#Handtracking for #VR is amazing! However, it generates frustration when the interaction is not behaving as expected by the user. To be effective, hand tracking requires tailored grasp recognition for better #UX. With #Interhaptics you can do that, in a few clicks!

Passive #haptics can bring great value for wearable #UI. It is great to have tactile confirmation during interactions. Hand tracking is really becoming the user interface for professional use of #VR #oculusquest #interaction #haptic

Wearable UI with IK and passive #haptics for #VR. See you tomorrow for the tutorial on how to implement the inverse kinematics for your #handtracking project. We developed all of that stuff thanks to #Interhaptics and #Unity3D. Get Interhaptics suite beta: interhaptics.com

(and prompted by the excellent talks from Massimo Bergamassco today & @twi_mar yesterday... Mar, I don't recall if this riffs off your point about the uncanny valley of haptics as well?) Cc @melslater & @panxueni

Lukewarm #haptics take: what if, by definition, it's impossible to experience realistic haptic sensations while wearing a bulky exoskeleton b/c by definition the exoskeleton betrays the artifice of the simulation? (this was David Katz's critique of experimental psych in 1920s)

@Dave_Parisi @hap2_u The challenge is to avoid to verticalise too much the technology, and keep it as multipurpuse as possible. Not always trivial for #haptics. The remote demo problem is hardly solvable. Focus on creating low cost and shippable demonstrators. Works for us.

@Dave_Parisi We were succesfull to get haptics out of the lab by tying it to use cases. The same lab spun off us and @hap2_u, which is doing great things for automotive, and we were able to get it out on real world use cases with virtual professional training.

Fantastic talk on #haptics in VR from @Eyal_Ofek. Addressing the demo problem with haptics, Eyal notes that it's a significant challenge & suggests just giving users tools to build devices themselves at home to test...wonder if @MSFTResearch's legal team would be cool with this?
