The UAE consensus, or should I say, UAE compromise should not be celebrated. Focuses on reducing emissions alone and carbon capture tech is dangerous. Living on an island, I know this package will not keep our communities safe and compromises our future for profits.

Fossil fuels are not just heating up the planet— they are displacing communities, they are polluting, they are spilling, they are poisoning… That’s why *reducing emissions* *only* isn’t the answer— the whole industry needs to be phased out because it’s extractive and dangerous

To those who opposed a clear reference to phase out of fossil fuels during the #COP28 Climate Conference, I want to say: Whether you like it or not, fossil fuel phase out is inevitable. Let’s hope it doesn’t come too late.

This COP isn’t making history in tackling climate change. It will be remembered as the COP the solidified the destruction of our islands, vulnerable communities, and future generations. Let’s not get wrapped up in the grand illusion of this COP, it is a failure.

Saying “we didn’t know the red lines of countries” is a slap in the face. He knew the read lines, they were just ignored.

The current text on fossil fuels @COP28_UAE is like my mom asking me if I could take out the trash, instead of telling me to take out the trash. Which are you more likely to do?

John Kerry just said this is a war for survival. There’s an army of young leaders outside and around the world that will not back down from the fight ti end the era of fossil fuels.

Islands are like the youngest sibling, always fighting to be heard, meanwhile the middle children, like UK, LMDCs, and US, that hide behind de oldest sibling, and the oldest siblings, like the Arab Group, take up space and air arguing when they know they’re wrong.

Attended the Majlis session of world leaders at @COP28_UAE where leaders questioned who would solve the climate crisis if not for them. The answer: young people like me. It took all I had to not raise my hand and show the room we were there listening to them debate our future.
