Astounding how this got buried a bit in a year that was soooo coming of age for women year. Both poor things and Barbie absolutely fumble the nature of being forced to deal with the grim reality that surrounds them for the first time.

Amazing little movie with sweet performances. I love that they didn’t modernize the story. Sad that there are so few pieces of popular media for and about tween girls today that explore topics like puberty, friendship, and family at Judy Blume’s level of realism and depth.
