At WSSD in Doha, todays' session explored how ageing must be placed at the heart of social protection strategies to ensure dignity & security for all. With 165M older people worldwide still without a pension, the message was clear: social protection is not charity; it is justice.

Yesterday, HelpAge International delivered a statement at the 4th High Level Meeting on Non Communicable Diseases and Mental Health at the United Nations hashtag#HML4. The statement was read by Caitlin Wald, HelpAge’s Transition Lead.

A compass gives direction. A #UNConvention on the rights of older persons would do the same. Back at #HRC58, the Human Rights Council took a historic step by establishing the Intergovernmental Working Group to draft this Convention. (1/2)

At the High-Level Meeting on human rights of older persons Amb. @KSzczerski underlined that a legally binding instrument to protect their rights should address gaps in current protection like: healthcare, social protection, economic security, and participation in public life.

It was a pleasure to be a panelist at today's PGA High-level meeting on ageing. It was the link between the former OEWG-A in NY and the new established intergovernmental wg in Geneva at the HRC.
