Take advantage of these warm spring days without the Illinois humidity and bugs by hosting a garden party! Not sure where to start? Perhaps Mrs. Frank Learned's article in the August 3, 1913 issue of the Chicago Examiner might be of use! #ChronAmParty #GardenParty

Much of our work is in preparing microfilmed newspapers for digitization--going through reels, creating metadata, noting irregularities. Occasionally we see clues from the past connecting us to those whose past work we build on. #ArchivesHashtagParty #ArchivesSnapShot

The Black Newspapers collection also contains the only existing copy of the Chicago Reflector (October 16, 1897), thought to have run from 1895 to 1906. Contents of the 1897 issue suggest the Reflector functioned much like a small-town paper.

A local newspaper, The News-Gazette, has a Teacher of the Week feature. Last month, Carrie McMenamin, a local high school social studies instructor, gave the Illinois Digital Newspaper Collections a shoutout. Thanks, Carrie! We hope your students had fun exploring the IDNC!
