It's a longstanding tradition is the short answer. In western culture bowing is a symbol of submission or prostration, whereas handshake is a symbol of mutual respect or equality. We do not like to submit or prostrate in the west so bowing often seems excessive as a greeting we basically only bow to God or a king if you're from a country with one of those.

I fucking love designing magazines. It’s always a challenge, but I love the struggle. At first, I was intimidated by the complex curvatures around the feed lips, but once I understood how to construct them from the ground up, I now design every magazine the same way: starting with the bullet as the core, figuring out the taper angle of the casing, projecting the taper radius into paths, and creating profile curves to extrude them into solids. Once you see it that way, you can’t unsee it. It’s like finally seeing straight through the Matrix code.

You should have them call back to their earlier conversation about having kids with something to the effect of "With those two greenhorns as our back up we're sure to die" "I guess we don't have to worry about having kids then" "Yea but me might as well have a got time on our last night alive" ... Kind of cheesy but I don't think that's avoidable considering its something that has to happen for the story to start. You could even cut right to the baby being born and leave the actual operation open ended to call back to throughout the story, something the audience doesn't directly see but hears about in a lot. You could even tie in how the boss wants the protag's parents dead to how the useless photographers will definitely get them killed and lead it into a last night alive go out with a bang, pun intended, implied sex scene.
