Si estás debatiendo si vacunar a tus hijos contra la varicela, me gustaría contarte una historia. Cuando tenía 5 años, contraje la varicela. No fue gran cosa. Estuve enfermo un par de días y luego seguí con mi vida. Pero lo que no sabía como niño de 5 años era que había sido inscrito en la lotería más de mierda del mundo. 30 años después, mi número salió. Si no sabes qué es el herpes zóster, es una afección que provoca una horrible erupción con ampollas y un dolor nervioso ardiente y punzante. La mayoría de la gente lo padece en el torso. Si tienes mala suerte, podrías tenerlo en la cara. Si tienes una MALA SUERTE EXTREMA como yo, puedes tenerlo en los genitales. Así que ahí estaba yo (en mi maldito cumpleaños) en la primera de dos visitas consecutivas a urgencias, llorando de dolor cuando me diagnosticaron herpes zóster. Me recetaron medicamentos antivirales y cada día una inyección de fentanilo. Eso es, fentanilo. El dolor fue tan atroz que me dieron el mismo analgésico que le dieron a mi padrastro después de una cirugía de corazón ABIERTA. NO PUEDO exagerar el dolor insoportable que estaba sufriendo. Me recetaron Vicodin. Pasé los siguientes 7 días hecho un ovillo fetal en el sofá de mi madre. No comí y apenas bebí porque de lo contrario tendría que usar el baño. Digamos que eso era algo que haría cualquier cosa por evitar. 7 días de miseria absoluta e implacable. Te cuento esta historia porque si puedes evitar que tus hijos sean inscritos en la lotería del herpes zóster, realmente deberías hacerlo. La vacuna contra la varicela previene más que solo la varicela. La varicela no es un problema. El herpes zóster definitivamente sí lo es.

I need to talk about my neighbors because I have been holding this in for too long. They had a birthday party this weekend. For one of their kids. In their backyard. I counted six children and two adults. There were balloons. There was a cake on a folding table. It lasted maybe two hours in the middle of the afternoon. And I am sorry but who is going to tell people that you cannot just do this. The noise. Six children making the sound that six children make. For two hours. On a Saturday. I had things I wanted to do in my own home and instead I had to listen to a party I was not invited to and would not have attended anyway. The cars. Two extra cars parked on the street near my house. On the public street, yes, but near my house, which means in front of the area I consider to be my general zone. And the balloons. One of them came loose and drifted into my yard and I had to be the one to deal with a stray balloon on my own property because of a party that had nothing to do with me. They did not warn me. No note, no heads up, no hey we are having a small thing on Saturday. They just decided to have a celebration in a yard that shares a fence with mine and let me find out about it by hearing it. If you are going to host an event, even a small one, the neighbors should be consulted. We share an environment. My Saturday is part of that environment and they spent it without asking. I am aware some people will say it was just a kids birthday party. To those people I would say it is never just anything when it affects the people around you.

@RealPostFolder I’m early 40s and single and I’ll remain so before I date a woman with kids or a woman much over 30. Gonna be older shes gonna be 10-20 years younger and have her first kids with me. Or not. No other options

I know this is probably going to sound ridiculous to some people, but honestly this has been bothering me more than it should 😅 Every single week, my neighbor rolls their trash bins out to the curb the NIGHT before pickup. Not early morning. Not before work. The entire evening before. And now, like clockwork, I sit in my living room and the main thing I see outside my window is… garbage bins. Maybe it sounds small, but it changes the whole feel of the street. The neighborhood looks messy for half the day because someone decided their convenience matters more than how the street actually looks for everyone else. Before people jump on me, yes, obviously everyone has trash. I take mine out too. But I wait until the morning of pickup because I feel like that’s the considerate thing to do. The bins stay outside for the shortest amount of time possible and the street doesn’t spend an entire evening looking like cleanup day. What gets under my skin is that it feels so careless. Like there was never even one thought of, “Hey, maybe other people don’t want to stare at trash cans outside their homes all night.” And now I’m sitting here debating whether leaving a polite note would make me completely unreasonable 😬 Part of me thinks I should just let it go because technically they aren’t doing anything wrong. But another part of me feels like shared neighborhoods only stay nice when people think beyond just their own convenience. Am I overreacting here!

i think health insurance companies should be charged with murder if they intentionally deny a patient a lifesaving medication or procedure. if they want to act like doctors, they need to face the consequences. if a healthcare provider does that, we can lose our licenses.
