No arguments here. Moved to Calcutta in 1977. Traffic, road conditions, poverty, garbage, powercuts, bad health facilities, constant upheavals, it was traumatic. The improvements are staggering since then.

Note for journos reporting on tech policy in India: a "Think Tank" refers typically to an NGO or non profit org. Most orgs you're referring to as think thanks in reporting are private co's mostly representing client interests without disclosing. Many are masquerading as civil society. Don't enable this. Ask for disclosures.

My mom fled death threats from the unions. She was pregnant with my sister when they tried to run her over. She was on her way to the airport when the union bosses arrived at her father’s home looking for her. Militant unionism in India, fostered by socialist govts, was a treat.

It is remarkable how utterly we economists have failed to convince others that rent control is a bad policy. Our rhetoric has traditionally relied heavily on the logic of theory. I think we need to rely more on evidence.

#WATCH | Delhi: Union Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar says, "Regarding air conditioning standards, a new provision is being implemented soon. The temperature standardization for ACs will be set between 20°C to 28°C, meaning we won't be able to cool below 20°C or warm above 28°C. This is a first-of-its-kind experiment, aiming to standardize temperature settings."

Breaking this. Top Cong leader says that unless @ShashiTharoor clarifies his recent comments on the LoC being crossed for the first time “embarrassing endorsement of Modi almost fawning over him” he will find himself out of the party

If my government says they captured Islamabad, then they captured Islamabad. If they say they downed Pak jets, then they downed Pak jets. If they say they lost S400, then they lost S400. If they say they lost the war, then they lost the war. If they say they won the war, then they won the war. If they say they want to escalate, then escalation is wise. If they say they want to deescalate, then deescalation is wise. That’s my government and I am committed to it. Not always but unreservedly and unconditionally in the middle of a conflict. Doesn’t matter if it’s Modi or RG or a fuckin’ log of wood. Be loyal to your own. Blindly so. There’s only one right way to be when your country is fighting off demons and this is it.
