Tapi dari jalanjalan naik motor keliling Amerika Selatan sama temennya yang anak stem juga Alberto Granado, naik Norton 500. Dari Buenos Aires sampai ke Florida.
Misi utamanya tadinya buat ngobatin lepra di Peru tapi keterusan karena liat kalo ternyata kalo diliat secara makro, masalahnya adalah masalah struktural. Imperialisme US yang juga disokong oleh feodalisme lokal. Dari situlah mereka jadi woke, keterusan bawa motor sampe motornya mati total di Venezuela.
Totalnya mereka trip di sekitar 13520 km.
Trip ini ditulis langsung sama Che di bukunya yang berjudul Motorcycle Diaries dan difilmkan dengan judul yang sama (adaptasi yang oke).
Dari Florida dia pulang naik pesawat karena motornya yang jebol dan menuntaskan kuliahnya di Buenos Aires, dia adalah abangabangan kiri yang menyelesaikan kuliah kedokterannya.
Perjalanan beserta lognya ini disandingkan dengan perjalanan legendaris Ibnu Batuta dan Marco Polo oleh banyak orang.

Ini salah satu buku unik dalam melihat che. Umumnya publikasi soal che itu di heroisme oratorial, perang, jalan2 motor dll, tapi buku ini lebih banyak gambarin pemikiran politiknya sama betapa rapihnya dia sebagai manajer dan siap bekerja di bawah tekanan maupun ditempatkan di mana saja. Dia itu lulusan kedokteran—pasca revolusi teluk babi kuba, dia sering pindah pos ngurusin pabrik maupun kebun yang bukan wilayah kepakaran dia dan terpaksa nyemplung langsung sekalian belajar karena manajer2 pabrik2 yang ngerti teknis rumitnya merupakan simpatisan rezim sebelumnya yang imperialis. Kedisiplinan serta mentalitas macem ini yang jarang jadi autokritik buat gerakan manapun. Buku ini juga banyak ceritain soal strategi ekonomi politiknya yang tidak hanya bagi kuba yang kena embargo tapi juga wilayah lain seperti congo, bolivia dll gimana caranya rebel tapi juga cari duit dan bisa sustain dengan kondisi lapangan. He shot a love scene on the first day so the actors understood the intimacy and why their characters behave the way they do. He later cut it because the film worked better without showing it. The scene disappeared, but the chemistry remained.
