Multiple wildfires have broken out this morning in the Plains, which are under a significant amount of red Flag & Fire Weather Warnings. A thread 🧵

A new wildfire broke out in Grant County, NE around 12 am, with lots of heat sigs Its unclear whether or not its separate fires (as the heat does have a gap) or one, but it is supposedly a tri-county incident at this time with no confirmed size or name. Ashby is being evacuated.

The smoke from the #ParamountFire made for a nice sunset in Bakersfield at least, lol.

#HunterFire 4 acres, driven by terrain in brush with a slow rate of spread.

#ElkFire S of Hwy 119, 3-5 acres with a moderate rate of spread in grass.

#FortFire in Inyo County along Fort Road is 1/2 acre, slowly moving towards heavier brush.

#StonyFire north of Huasna Rd, Along the Huasna River. Looks like two different starts?

Anybody with better perimeter knowledge is welcome to correct me though I'm not too familiar with Nebraska's fire history this is based off a rather brief research.

Reminder these perimeters aren't official and likely inaccurate (esp since these heat signatures are not the most accurate) but it is rather safe to say that the fire spanning 4 counties is the largest recorded wildfire in modern state history since 1972's Mullen Fire (~100k ac).

I've done a couple different heat signature maps for these two large wildfires in Nebraska, and while I've gotten varying results (up to 520k, down to 453k for the big one and 108k-150k for the smaller one), both fires are 100k+, including the definitely 350k+ one.

The fire is pushing into Lincoln County, per radio traffic.

New vegetation fire along Hwy 54, in between Hooker & Tyrone, OK.
