@MohgaKamalYanni @ChathamHouse @CHGlobalHealth You have not read my post properley. I set out the situation as laid down in the Laws of Armed Conflict. I made it clear that even if Hamas is abusing these Laws, thus rendering the protection invalid, Israel still has a duty to minimisee harm to civilians.

This is not provocative, it is poorly researched, poorly argued, and dangerous. Can’t believe a respected group as @CHGlobalHealth would publish this or lead with this as a deliberate headline

Protection for medical facilities is not absolute. It can be lost if protections are abused by basing a command post or logistic base within or near a hospital, writes @LLillywhite (@CHGlobalHealth). chathamhouse.org/2023/11/medica…

@Lowkey0nline To clarify - I simply stated what the law states. One may not like the law, if so change it, but one cannot ignore it. I reiterate - hospitals should not be attacked as they are protected. Even if they lose their protection, the attacker still has responsibilities.

Keir Starmer has given a speech at Chatham House stating his opposition to a ceasefire of Israel's war on Gaza. Chatham House is funded by the UK Foreign Office, US State Department, BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin, NATO, Israel lobbyist Trevor Chinn and the Israeli Embassy.

@boredonterra @ChathamHouse @CHGlobalHealth "it can't just be based on feelings or assumptions" - I agree, you are correct. Hopefully both Hamas and Israel will be held to account for any breeches of the Laws of Armed Conflict. PROOF NEEDED!

@ChathamHouse @LLillywhite @CHGlobalHealth but burden of proof is on the attacker, remember when Putin bombed a hospital and said it was because Azov Battalion was there? They were still accused of Warcrimes. it can't just be based on feelings or assumptions or there would be no protections to begin with. PROOF NEEDED!

@ui_imair @ChathamHouse @CHGlobalHealth Hospitals must be protected so bombing them is wrong - in some circumstances they can lose their protection but so far we have not seen proof from the Israelis to justify the loss of protection. Russia has never claimed that Ukraine Hospitals have been used for military purposes

@DreJoanneLiu Is not the issue more complex? The potential diversion of funds from other programmes which save millions of lives; and (assuming similar epidemiology to High Income countries) the cost falls on the young and middle-aged but the benefit on the elderly. Where the balance?

@BenjaminMMeier @KarenGrepin Is revising the IHR a realistic prospect? Revisions will need the approval of the member States, some of whom think the current measures impact unreasonably on their Sovereignty and may seek to weaken the provisions if the IHR is opened for debate.

I think the bigger risk to #GlobalGovernance is continuing to pretend that the current regime is working: the fact that almost every country has imposed travel restrictions, many not in compliance with the #IHRs, suggests it is not.
Benjamin Mason Meier@BenjaminMMeier

@KarenGrepin I agree that there needs to be greater understanding of the #PublicHealth impact of these nationalist measures, but beyond the health "effectiveness," it will also be necessary to consider the impact on #GlobalGovernance — dividing the world when #Solidarity was needed most.

But preparedness of surrounding countries doubled on objective measures, and manpower for vaccination comes from local countries. But need for highly qualified assistance from outside Region. But still short of finance!
