I wish I had better news to post here. I’m still processing all of this information myself. I just had a consultation with a foot & bone expert in Bangkok. Supposed to be one of the best. Within 15 seconds of looking at my CT scans from 2 weeks ago, he saw there was an issue with one of my fractures and said it should have been surgically repaired. By not repairing it, I’m at high risk of serious issues down the road.
So where does that leave me: I want to get another opinion, but this guy is THE guy. He showed us the exact issue, and we used his explanation and images to cross reference online. Everything suggests he is correct, and that waiting too long means bones can start healing incorrectly which complicates the surgery more and worsens odds of mobility coming back to 100%. So there’s a bit of a time crunch on getting this surgery.
I can do the surgery here in Bangkok in the next week, but then I need to wait another 3 weeks or more to fly. I’m not sure I can handle that. I miss my dogs, I miss all my things, I miss being able to stream, and I miss my family. I want to go home.
I can fly back to France and get surgery there or in Geneva. This allows me to recover at our temporary home, with my dogs, my things, I can stream, etc. Flying at this point isn’t ideal, but over 2 weeks post surgery, given my age and healthy ways of living, and with blood thinner injections before, during, and after the flight, risk of blood clots is pretty damn low. I will also take the cast off and move my ankle, calf, toes, etc a lot during the flight, which lowers risk. Seems extremely unlikely anything bad would happen.
I can also fly back to the United States, and begin settling back into my real home after the 2nd surgery. I could have my house, my cats, my real stream set up, and most importantly, my family all within relatively close proximity. This sounds best to me, but of course includes the complications of flying, and adds on a whole extra gigantic layer of complication with Kelsey, our dogs, and most of our things being in France. Her needing to navigate getting back to the US with all of that sounds like such an unfair nightmare to put on her.
In either the France or US situation, I need to immediately begin research to find a very good orthopedic surgeon who could get me in ASAP. There’s still a tiny chance I don’t need this surgery, but given the imaging we saw and explanation he gave, with our cross reference research, it seems unlikely that I can avoid the 2nd surgery without taking a huge risk.
The last week I was doing very well mentally. I felt like I was healing little by little and had accepted the long road ahead. This curveball has me back in a really dark place. I’m so mad at the initial hospital for not completing the job. How could they miss something that this guy saw within 15 seconds?!? I feel like my last 2 weeks of pain and discomfort was all for nothing. I’m going to have to start back at square one here soon.
Not the update I was hoping to give. 💔

Not so fun thing happened an hour ago here in Koh Lanta Thailand
I crashed a motorcycle (wasn’t going very fast). Kelsey was also on the bike. She had her right leg scraped up decently bad, seems that’s all for her.
I severely fucked up my right food. Hurts horribly. Ambulance came, took us to hospital. X-rays. Definitely broken with bad internal bleeding. About to take a 2 hour ambulance ride to a different hospital for probable surgery.
