We study civilizations through the minds that shaped them. Identity, ideas, institutions - where history becomes a structure, not a story.

Inequality didn’t return by mistake.
It returned with arguments, models, and justifications.
This episode looks at the moment economics stopped asking whether inequality was fair — and started asking whether it was efficient.

Japan becomes a state by adjusting relationships, not by destroying them.
Power grows through harmony, ritual, and obligation — not ideology or conquest.
The past is never overthrown. It is reorganised.

For decades, economics assumed people were rational.
Reality disagreed.
This episode marks the moment when psychology and institutions forced the discipline to face the obvious: markets don’t run on equations — they run on fear, trust, habit, and belief.

The city is not built for survival.
It is built for living well.

@TMT_arabic The United States, Israel, and Iran are not among the countries that have signed or ratified the Convention on Cluster Munitions.

@UbermenschMind The border of the Germans was on the Elbe - everything to the east was the result of brutal Germanization of ruthlessly conquered peoples and their forced Germanization. If anyone has the right to demand a refund, it is only the Slavs

Epic Maps 🗺️@theepicmap
Can someone please explain to me why Russia owns this part of Germany?
English

@SusanneAydinlik @theepicmap Formally, there is no indigenous historical group in the region. The Prussians disappeared several hundred years ago. The Germans were removed after 1945. The current inhabitants have no local roots older than ~80 years. This is one of the most radical "ethnic resets" in Europe.

@LibraryofIdeas_ @theepicmap "Completely exterminated"? They were assimilated, to my knowledge. The old Prussian language gave way to German as well as Polish and Lithuanian, depending on the region.

All states are political constructs, but not all are equally artificial.
Some emerge from long civilisational and linguistic continuities.
Others are drawn by diplomatic compromise, conquest, or elite decision.
The question is not whether a state was “created”, but whether its borders reflect a real historical community.
Italy or Romania were not formed strictly along clear ethnic or cultural lines.
They were products of political unification and strategic decisions.
Statehood is always constructed, but the degree of civilisational continuity varies.

@LibraryofIdeas_ @theepicmap Every state is artificially created?

What happened to the Britons?
Three simultaneous processes:
escape: to Wales, Cornwall, Brittany
assimilation: adoption of the Anglo-Saxon language and culture
marginalization: relegation to the geographic periphery
English

@LibraryofIdeas_ @theepicmap Prussia was part of the German Reich. Germany is the successor of the German Reich. Those people were not exterminsted the became inhabitants of Prussia. As the Saxon and Vikings did not exterminate the Britons, they mixed.
