@linmeitalks Some of your observations are fair, but Caribbean culture isn’t a monolith, just like Africa isn’t. There’s a lot of variation across different islands/country, socioeconomic group and upbringings, so experiences won’t be the same across the board.

I love my Nigerian people, but even though Caribbean-born and British-born Caribbean people are different, Nigerian culture is still very male-centric. It’s all about “respect him no matter what” ….even if he cheats or disrespects you. But us Caribbean women aren’t sticking around for that nonsense just to please society/save face and make the elders happy. Also, Nigerian men aren’t really into cooking and cleaning as much as Caribbean men. Caribbean men were raised to be hands-on…cooking, cleaning, and pulling their weight. Caribbean women raised their boys not to depend on women, and Caribbean fathers raised us girls not to let any man treat us like fools or control us with money. All cultures have their good and bad btw- this isn’t to say one is better than the other. African men are probably better at being business focussed and career minded 🤷🏽‍♀️

@linmeitalks Nigeria is made up off over 500 ethnic groups and languages. Respectfully when you say Nigerian culture you have focused on what you know which is probably about 1 percent to be honest Lin

Wait! Why are we blaming men for the other night 🤦🏽‍♀️ if my family were there I’d want them to remove themselves from that nonsense immediately and go home. Yes, men could have stepped in and used their masculinity to stop what went down the other night in Mayfair... The same masculinity women call toxic... ?? The same one society keeps demonising... We've spent so much time putting men down... directly and indirectly telling them we don't need them, that they shouldn't tell us what to do, to stay out of "women's business." And now suddenly they're supposed to save the day... Those women were adults, not children. We fought for feminism so we could decide our own destiny and make our own choices. Yes, the guys who just laughed and filmed it were pathetic, but as women, we can't act beastly and aggressive... and then expect men to come rescue us like soft little damsels in distress. Be in control of your own actions.

The media are parading about the drop in unemployment to 4.9% but are not giving proper context as to why unemployment is falling. It’s being driven by an increase in economically inactive people, not more people getting in to work. That’s an important distinction. Is this ignorance or intentional on their part?
