amusing since french huguenots experienced xenophobia upon arrival. since huguenots were weavers, english weavers protested them, fearing they'd take jobs and housing, as well as create public disorder. but over time, the huguenots improved the UK textile industry, adding jobs

What does it mean to be ethnically English?

@leftrestoration Ramsey went to Birkbeck & Nye won a scholarship from the South Wales Miners' Federation to attend the Central Labour College, where he studied for two years. They were highly intelligent men who, because of the era they lived in, had limited access to educational opportunities.

Tedious common men as politicians: - Ramsay Mcdonald; son of a farmhand and professional clerk. Ran Britain when it controlled 20% of the world economy. - Nye Bevan; former mineworker. Founded the NHS. - Ernest Bevin; former truck driver, instrumental in founding NATO What have any of our posh Oxbridge leaders achieved in the last thirty years even closely comparable?
Ye Olde Holborn☣️@Ye_Olde_Holborn

>>>I’m (non~working) working class myself, but I’d much rather have posh aristocrats running the country that look & sound the part & who had access to an elite education. This guy is probably great for a fixing a boiler or having a pint down the pub, but I don’t want him making laws. I hate all this tedious common man shite ~ utter decline

@JoeBrindle_ @leftrestoration Ramsey went to Birkbeck and Nye won a scholarship from the South Wales Miners' Federation to attend the Central Labour College in London, where he studied for two years. They were intelligent and definitely would have gone to more prestigious universities if born today.

@leftrestoration I do think it's worth considering that, if born today, these men would've most likely all gone to University. Bevan was an incredibly studious child but never had the opportunity - probably would get a scholarship to Oxbridge in 2026.

After my daughter died, my son in law dropped my 3 small grandchildren off daily at a school breakfast club so that he could continue to work. They support a wide range of families in so many different ways. This Reform Cllr really ought to think before she opens her mouth

Sorry, call me old fashioned but I believe it’s the parents’ job to give their child the best possible start to the school day.

APC Lagos Assembly Primaries – Surulere Constituency II Damilola Ayinde-Marshall, aspirant for Surulere Constituency II, made a notable arrival as party members and supporters gathered ahead of the APC Lagos State House of Assembly Primary Election. She received a rousing welcome, greeted with loud cheers and visible excitement from supporters and constituents at the ongoing primaries in Surulere Local Government Area, Lagos State.

@Hoopfan3745111 I find that the people who claim Greek history the most aren't even Greek. Mostly western and northern Europeans.

@supernovaposie @daniellexxcx Sounds like a lot of the same complaints people made during the 1950 race riots. Their descendants adapted and the new migrants will too. In the long run, everyone will be fine 🤷‍♂️

@Buschcorner @daniellexxcx I think you don't understand what's been happening and as has been pointed out they don't distinguish hence the original post. Too many old people abused in care homes, areas turned into pig stys, bad driving, fraud, belowing loud voice everywhere and hoggish behaviour.

@Buschcorner they are not Greek ... they were imposed by Germany after the Greek revolution against the Ottoman oppressors in the 1830s ... they were of German and Danish decent ... Greeks kicked them out of the country as late as the 1970s ...

@supernovaposie @daniellexxcx I think you’re assuming Caribbeans somehow have a better reputation than Africans. Funny, because the racists didn’t seem to care when they were trying to deport the Windrush generation or blaming every rise in crime on “yardies.” Good luck though 👍

@XONYT_ What makes this conversation so funny is that Africans are doing the same thing to Caribbeans that both groups do to Black Americans. Neither group is even ethnically Black for real but you use the fake concept of race to justify appropriating Black culture

The African faction within "Black-British" culture is nowhere near as large or even comparable to the British-Caribbean influence. What forms of aspects of "Black-British" culture have Africans created in the UK which all Black groups utilise within the UK? Being a plurality, i.e. having a larger population, clearly does equate to being the most influential. Whenever we predominantly observe the usage of "Black-British" identity, it is to appropriate Black-Caribbean culture under the banner of Blackness by Africans, which they have no claim to. Caribbean language and verbiage, primarily from Jamaican Patois, shaped "slang" in the UK, not African. Caribbean music culture, including soundsystem and clash culture, laid the foundation for Grime Music. Caribbean culture shaped the Notting Hill Carnival in the United Kingdom, the largest festival in the Country, estimated to be 11 times larger than Glastonbury. So, please tell me what Africans in the UK have formulated that is bigger than these aspects, especially what all Black people emulate in the UK.
ALLIGATOR TEARS@Nick50101

@XONYT_ I hate this take so much. Well yes culturally Caribbeans have been largely impactful towards “Black British” culture and achievements, the African faction is obviously bigger and Caribbean’s benefit when that faction also does well.
