Yesterday, the Maryland Peer Advisory Council (MPAC) proudly attended Maryland Overdose Prevention Day 2026, standing alongside peers, advocates, families, community members, providers, and partners committed to saving lives and strengthening recovery across our state. Thank you, Lt. Governor, Aruna Miller, Special Secertary Emily Keller & the leadership of the Maryland Office of Opioid Response, NCADD-MD, Behavioral Health System Baltimore (BHSB), Baltimore Harm Reduction Coalition and Maryland Alliance of Sensible Drug Policy. This day serves as a powerful reminder that overdose prevention is public health work, community work, and recovery work. Together, we honored lives lost, uplifted those in recovery, and continued conversations that move us toward compassion, access to care, and hope. We extend our sincere gratitude to all supporters, collaborators, organizers, and community partners who made this day possible. Your commitment to education, awareness, and action continues to make a meaningful difference in communities across Maryland. MPAC remains committed to advancing peer support, reducing stigma, and ensuring that recovery and overdose prevention resources reach those who need them most. #OverdosePrevention #Maryland #RecoveryIsPossible #PeerSupport #PublicHealth #EndStigma #mpacmd

Dee’s Place-Closure Effective Today! Dear Community, We are writing to express our profound disappointment and concern regarding the immediate closure of Dee's Place, effective today. Yesterday, Monica White and I met with officials to advocate for the continuation of Dee's Place. As a community, we understand the critical role this space plays for those in or seeking recovery. Our request was clear: keep the doors and vision of Dee’s Place alive, and if not at HEBCAC, then where? For 31 years, Dee’s Place has been an anchor in East Baltimore, offering 24-hour support, resources, training, and overdose response. A 2023–2024 report indicates that Dee’s Place at HEBCAC served 74,000 people. View here issuu.com/hebcac/docs/he… The closure, which occurred without transparent communication or input to the community, the Health Department, local and state officials, or past partners, is heartbreaking. Given Baltimore’s status as a trauma-informed city, the immediate loss of these critical services is a serious matter of Public Health and Safety. We are left with critical questions: - Where will the 74,000 people who relied on Dee's Place go for support? - Who will be accountable when individuals cannot access the critical support services they need? -What about the individuals in sustained recovery who utilized the services and mutual supports at Dee’s? -What’s the response when a person is unable to gain access to Dee’s? -Where will the vans of people in early recovery go? -Where will someone access non-traditionally hours for Support? Every question above occured at Dee’s Place-unlike the myth-its just a place for meetings. Despite the tireless efforts of our community including gathering more than 3,100 signatures, countless emails, and advocacy actions- Today, is a deeply sad day for the City of Baltimore. We thank Mrs. D for her vision for Dee’s Place, as well as the recovery historians, leaders, and countless volunteers who have served there. We also thank the parties in yesterday's meeting for committing to continued conversations on how to sustain Dee's Place. Our commitment to recovery in Baltimore remains unwavering. We need your support to keep Dee’s open. #keepthedoorsopen #baltimorecity #baltimorecityhealthdepartment @mackenziescott @iamwesmoore @arunamiller
