@BNewitt Back to the start then. Athletes have to be students was actually one of the very first rules to be implemented 120 years ago as schools were playing best athletes they could find to win.

We are getting really close to the edge here when you no longer have to be a student at all to play college sports. Maybe we already have moved past that edge? I sure hope not.

I don’t want to see guys who’ve played in the G-League/NBA/Europe playing in college basketball. But if guys can be paid millions of dollars to not play in the NBA what’s the difference at this point? If 1 player made 3 million last year at Duke and another player made 2 million in a pro league… why can Arizona pay one of them to play for them next year but not the other?

I have them ranked but I want to hear some opinions first. A few of mine are going to get some people hot.

@JayHeidrick Also shows you have to be able to piece it together properly from the portal to get established to get players to build from within. Look at Iowa. But if you can put it together properly from the portal, you can get to the keeping a roster together part.

What this shows is the importance of retention to establish and preserve a winning culture. Going to the portal year to assemble an entirely new roster is not a path for sustainable success.
