President Trump uttered numerous false claims, including long-debunked lies, at his press conference today - in addition to several very-much-uncorroborated claims, like the one about how every living former president is saying “to their friends” that the US should’ve started this war long ago.  Quick fact check of some of his remarks: - Trump repeated his 11-year-old lie that his 2000 book advised the authorities to take out Osama bin Laden. It contained no advice about bin Laden at all, just one passing mention. - Trump falsely claimed, at a press conference focused on what happened after the US lost two planes to Iranian fire, that “really” the “only” planes the US has lost during the war have been the result of friendly fire. - Trump repeated his familiar lie that he’s “ended eight wars.” His “eight” list, among various other problems, includes two situations that weren’t actually wars and at least one war that didn’t actually end.  - Trump again greatly exaggerated the US troop presence in South Korea, saying twice that it’s “45,000.” Pentagon data from year-end says it was 26,722, 23,395 of them on active duty.  - Trump repeated his assertion that Venezuela’s Maduro “released hundreds of thousands of people from jails into our country,” a claim he and his team have never substantiated even though he’s made it for years now.  cnn.com/2026/04/06/pol…

He didn’t kill Osama Bin Laden obviously. And as @ddale8 has repeatedly pointed out, he never issued a Bin Laden warning in his 2000 book. It’s totally made up by him and he keeps repeating it and the assembled reporters let him. Sigh. Our media is broken Zeteo.com/subscribe

@Acyn Someone from the press needs to correct him but they won’t. Everybody in the world knows he had nothing to do with Bin Laden.

The @POTUS says he ripped up the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement "without much thought." That much is true. Under that agreement, Iran surrendered 97% of its enriched uranium, retaining a small amount of low-enriched material; D/Ced 13k advanced centerfuges and a heavy-water reactor; and submitted to intrusive inspections. They're program was enfeebled and frozen. When Trump ripped up the agreement, they resumed enriching uranium to much closer to weapon grade. Maybe a little forethought would have been a good thing???

TRUMP: “The Iranians are animals. That’s why blowing up their bridges and power stations isn’t a war crime.” I’m at loss for words.

Trump: "I'm polling higher than anybody has ever polled in Venezuela. So after I'm finished with this I can got to Venezuela. I will quickly learn Spanish. It won't take long. I'm good at language. I will go to Venezuela. I'm going to run for president."

This is one of those profoundly ignorant statements that makes people outside the United States laugh and cringe at the same time. Many countries have pulled off rescue operations like this. Some of them more spectacularly. only Americans and American wannabees think otherwise
