Van Nuys Medical Plaza Draws Scrutiny Over Concentration of Hospice Providers
State records reviewed by recent reporting show that the Merabi Professional Medical Plaza in Van Nuys is listed as the address for dozens of hospice and home health agencies, while a CBS News investigation reported 89 hospice companies registered there.
A March 2022 California State Auditor report identified large clusters of hospice agencies at specific Los Angeles County addresses and said one building had more than 150 agencies registered to it, a number the report said exceeded the structure’s apparent physical capacity.
The same state audit found Los Angeles County experienced a steep increase in hospice agencies over the prior decade and warned that weak oversight had created opportunities for large-scale fraud and abuse in hospice licensing.
In March 2026, California Assemblywoman Alexandra Macedo said records showed nearly 200 hospice agencies tied to the Van Nuys address and urged state action, while recent reporting also documented repeated regulatory visits and numerous violations linked to companies associated with the building.

Coast Guard Rescues Snowmobiler From Drifting Ice Near Mackinac Island
The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a 55-year-old man who became stranded on unstable ice near Mackinac Island, Michigan, during whiteout blizzard conditions after attempting to cross Lake Huron by snowmobile.
Authorities said the man had been warned earlier not to go onto the ice, but he attempted the crossing anyway and later became unable to continue after encountering open water.
The Coast Guard cutter Mackinaw was diverted to the scene, located the man about a mile west of Sunset Rock, deployed a rescue team onto the ice, and brought both the man and his snowmobile aboard the vessel.
Officials said the man received medical care onboard and was reported in stable condition, while local responders described the rescue conditions as dangerous due to deep drifting snow, jagged ice, and extremely limited visibility.
