It is easier to be (rightly) outraged by poorer Nigerians begging for money from terrorists and kidnappers online, than it is to be outraged by nicely dressed middle class Nigerians, professionals, journalists, writers, and others who routinely take money from politicians who have open and verifiable records of being rapists, murderers, and thieves whose corruption directly leads to more deaths than any bandit could manage to kill. At least these poor(er) people online are just beggars. The well dressed ones don’t just take the money of murderous politicians who terrorise millions, they also actively whitewash and sell them as fit for public office.
Like I wrote in an article here a while ago, a Nigerian will tweet about how much of a disgrace and eyesore Nigerians begging at the airport and on the streets is, while on their way to do executive begging in offices and homes. In the end, the only real crime in Nigeria is poverty. Whatever crime you choose to do, just try to have money and success and you will be fine. Because if you are poor even the people you try to be good to will spit on you because you represent everything they hate and fear — that peculiarly dehumanising Nigerian poverty.

Today, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) celebrates a remarkable patriot, institution builder, and visionary leader, Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, Founder and Founding National Chairman of our great party, as he marks his 67th birthday.
For nearly two decades, Chief Nwosu has remained steadfast in his commitment to building a political platform anchored on democratic values, national unity, inclusion, and principled leadership. Through seasons of challenge and triumph, his conviction that Nigeria deserves a better political culture has never changed.
His legacy is not merely the creation of a political party, but the nurturing of an institution that continues to provide hope for millions of Nigerians who believe in democratic transformation and nation-building.
As he celebrates this milestone, we honour his vision, his sacrifice, and his enduring contributions to strengthening democracy in Nigeria.

I don’t think it’s desperation or poverty alone. I’m pretty confident that even people who did not really need the money would have collected it. It is a cultural weakness for money. Nigerian culture is simply defenceless against money. The presence of money in any situation alters behaviour and tips the scale

Dear Dr (Mrs) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, @NOIweala, please accept my heartfelt condolences on the recent loss of your beloved younger brother, Prince Ikechukwu Okonjo, who, until his passing, was a respected member of the Umu Obi Obahai royal family of the Ogwashi-Uku kingdom in Delta State. I understand how deeply painful it is to bury a family member.

@elNasrino @dondekojo @SodiqTade They don’t need 100 percent Obidient votes. They just need 65 percent to add to Atiku’s base and they are home and dry. Anyway, this is all academic and we know it’s very unlikely they will come together. Although all the signs point that they should.

Yes. Which is why anyone who wants to help him succeed should hold him to the highest standard instead of mollycoddling him. He is capable of rising to great heights but also capable of descending to the level of the vultures around him. No one who wants a better Nigeria and thinks he might have a chance should shield him from the scrutiny and pressure he needs to properly distinguish himself from the people who he now calls allies.

@oluwaseun_ajede God genuinely wants to save Nigerians from BAT in 2027 but His tools — the Siamese twins — are refusing to be used. Hence our predicament of being condemned to a 2nd term. It is not too late. We have till November to sort it out. I hope they allow themselves to be used.

The NDC is committed to building the party as a strong and enduring institution, with emphasis on party supremacy. The programs, policies, and appointments (except personal staff) of all governments elected on the platform of the party must be made in consultation with the party structure. The party remains supreme, and members are expected to align their personal interests and agendas with those of the party. 2. All affiliated groups and NGOs shall operate under the guidance and control of the party and must not function in parallel with, or independently of, the party structure. 3. A comprehensive Code of Conduct shall be established for all party officials and candidates. To this end, a committee has been constituted under the leadership of the National Legal Adviser to develop the framework and guidelines. 4. A National Reconciliation Committee has been inaugurated to reconcile all aggrieved members of the party. 5. The NDC is being built as an institution, not a personality cult, political movement, or Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to be used and discarded. Members are encouraged to remain committed to the party and contribute to its growth and sustainability for generations to come. At all times, and for all candidates and aspirants, total allegiance must be to the party and the national interest. On financial probity, the party will enforce strict accountability in the management of party resources by all officers, and party funds must be used strictly for party business. For candidates, there must also be strict accountability for all funding received. Monies sourced by candidates at all levels, and contributions made by candidates to campaign accounts, must be fully disclosed to the party at the appropriate levels (local government, state, zonal, and national). When we said that NDC was the real trap and this was the plan from Day One, on that blessed Sunday when PO joined NDC, they insulted us, saying we didn’t know what we were talking about. I thank God an Obidient leader is saying it now. Those who ignore the signs will see wonders.
