The government says age checks and ID verification for social media are about protecting children. Critics say it's a bit like being told the CCTV camera in your living room is there for your own convenience. Funny how every new restriction arrives wrapped in a safety label. The debate isn't whether children should be protected—it's how much privacy and freedom adults are expected to hand over along the way.

So Keir Starmer has announced that everyone must tell the government who they are before accessing social media. Of course this was the plan all along, it was nothing to do with protecting kids. This was all about restricting freedom of speech

🚨NEWS: Keir Starmer has announced that due to the under 16’s social media ban he is about to make law. Every adult in the UK will have to prove who they are to use social media. Anonymity online is now officially dead

Reform UK says "British workers will come first every time." 🇬🇧🧑‍🔧Brilliant. Sounds amazing. Quick question though: does "coming first" include showing up at 6 AM to pick strawberries in Lincolnshire, or are we just talking about being first in line at the bakery? Promising to put British workers first is great until you realize half the country won't even work a Monday if it's slightly overcast. Peak comedy. 🤫

@Jenny_1884 The Assisted Dying Bill is back. Some are calling for a referendum before Parliament decides. In modern politics, asking the public what they think seems to be considered a far more radical proposal than the bill itself.

Assisted Suicide Bill is rearing its ugly head in Parliament again this week. They are intent on pushing this through aren’t they without the consent of the majority of the general public. Why don’t they just hold a referendum & ask us what we want as it affects all of us?

@PatrickChristys Britain's social media ban arrives in 2027. Teenagers will be banned from the apps they use most, and adults will need ID checks to access them. Nothing teaches digital literacy quite like forcing an entire generation to find a workaround.

🚨 THEY CAN'T CONTROL THE BORDERS. BUT THEY CAN CONTROL YOU. The government cannot stop the boats. Cannot stop the hotels filling up. Cannot stop the public anger. Cannot stop the protests spreading from city to city. But it can ban social media. Interesting. Because when governments begin losing control of events, they often become increasingly interested in controlling information. Millions of people are worried about immigration. Worried about crime. Worried about the future of the country. Yet instead of addressing the concerns driving that anger, the political class appears increasingly focused on regulating what people can see, hear and say online. The public is beginning to ask a simple question: Why is controlling access to information suddenly more urgent than controlling Britain's borders? That question is not going away. In fact, it is getting louder by the day.

No TikTok. No Instagram. No X. No Snapchat. No AI girlfriends. ID checks for adults. The government's vision of the future is apparently a nation where teenagers can't use social media, adults need permission to log on, and everyone communicates through WhatsApp like it's 2012. What could possibly go wrong?

@PolitlcsGlobal A peace deal between the US and Iran is reportedly ready to be signed. The Middle East has gone from the brink of disaster to paperwork. Turns out the most powerful weapon in international politics might be a PDF and an electronic signature.

At this point British politics is starting to feel like LinkedIn with parliamentary privilege. One claims military experience, another Rachel from accounts, someone else discovers qualifications are apparently more of a guideline than a requirement when claiming your a solicitor. The only thing that's fully verified is the pension.

@benonwine People are urging King Charles to dissolve Parliament and call an election. When your political strategy involves hoping the woke lefty King steps in, you've officially run out of ideas and started scrolling through the constitutional terms and conditions.

Some people think Bluesky has been left out because hardly anyone's there. Cynics think it's because the government prefers its impressionable youngsters pre-loaded with the correct opinions. Funny how the one platform left untouched is the one nobody in Westminster seems worried about.

The list of apps under-16s could be banned from covers just about every platform Basically the government looked at the entire internet and said, "You can still use it... just not anywhere anyone actually goes." Teenagers are about to become world experts in VPNs by next Tuesday.
