A major highlight of the #10thONCKCONFERENCE was the official launch of the Oncology Nurses Society of Kenya (ONS-K), transitioning from the previous Oncology Nurses Chapter (ONC-K). The ceremony was led by Dr. Judith Awinja, Director of Nursing Services at MoH, (1/2)

The 3-day #10thONCKCONFERENCE concluded with an ONS-K AGM meeting. The workshop brought together experts and advocates, who successfully explored innovative solutions and addressed challenges in order to strengthen the future of cancer care in Kenya.

“There’s an urgent need to increase cancer care funding to achieve Universal Health Coverage in Kenya. The high cost of treatment remains the main challenge, and better policies are essential to improve cancer care,” shared Micah Omolo in his presentation.

Case studies on both radiation in pregnancy and palliative care were also presented. Another session highlighted the financial challenges in cancer treatment and the critical role of advocacy groups in closing the global funding gap.

The final day of the #10thONCKCONFERENCE focused on research and capacity building. Key topics included palliative care for advanced cancer patients and radiation treatment during pregnancy, featuring shielding and modification techniques.

The evening also featured the presentation of certificates honoring selected oncology nurses for their exceptional service, including a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award and Partner Recognition Award. #10thONCKCONFERENCE2024

The second day ended on a high note with a gala dinner celebrating the transition to Oncology Nurses Society of Kenya (ONS-K). The atmosphere was filled with joy as nursing practitioners came together in dance and song.
