John Snow, Barry Marshall, Semmelweis, Borglum, Galileo. Imagine if we judged people by the content of their character. Prefer facts over “someone’s truth.”

The more I think about it the more impressive it is. You can go into a chain pharmacy/grocery store literally anywhere in America & buy an expanded inventory of what would have been to any prior civ the entirety of their medical knowledge for a tiny fraction of a day’s wage.

“Medieval peasant tries a Dorito” is an old meme, but I think one of the most amazing things to them would be the “supplements”section in a store. Let’s give them the benefit of the doubt that they’re literate - they could just buy, retail, an entire apothecary pre-mixed.

People who want to keep this platform interesting should post something at least once each day that isn’t overtly political, but reflects some personal interest. This is what RW Twitter was in the era of censorship.

You don’t have to have an idealized “network” or big family. You just have to see the beauty of existing in a world where there are poison dart frogs & brassicas at the same time, sometimes the same place. You get to live in a future where the past is as legible as it can be.

Like, yeah, you can still reminisce about how you were going to be when you weren’t anything. But also, you can find yourself astride a beautifully mid life where no, nothing is perfect, but you don’t have to feel every bump of time as an insult or trauma.

My Spotify playlist has gone rogue and now it’s all sentimentalism. A cover version of “Always Remember Us This Way” from the new version of “A Star is Born” came on & I realized that one of the strongest benefits of becoming ancient is that you can recognize the folly of youth.

The place still smells of cigarettes. They have a little convenience store, of sorts, where a handwritten label says 180¥ for a cup noodle. I should do a drawing here, maybe, while these places still exist
