.@corylav asked Rod Brind'Amour about the NC State basketball situation and their past few days.
"They need to hire a guy like Coach (Elliott) Avent. A guy that gets it. A good people person. He's in it for the right reasons..."
Going on to talk about how loyalty has gone by the wayside in college athletics, he'd like to see someone with ties to the program in the position.
"It would be nice to get that feeling back... I'm sure there's a guy out there that still has that attachment to the place."
"It blows my mind that that's how all that went down, but I think (Will Wade) did (NC State) a favor. That's how I look at it."

Rod Brind'Amour, whose team shares an arena with NC State basketball, on Will Wade's departure: "I know the program pretty well, didn't know Will. I have a good relationship with Boo, Coach Avent. They need to hire a guy like Coach Avent. A guy that gets it, is a good people person and is in it for the right reasons. A guy that appeciates here. ... It blows my mind how that all went down, but I think he did them a favor."

I asked Rod Brind’Amour, who has pretty deep ties to NC State, about Wolfpack coach Will Wade’s departure to LSU. Some good insight here:
“I know the program pretty well. I didn't know Will. I’ve got a good relationship with (AD) Boo (Corrigan). I’ve got a good relationship with (NC State baseball) coach Elliott Avent; he's a great family friend. They need to hire a guy like Coach Avent. That's what you need to do. Get a guy that gets it, a guy that's a good people person, that's in it for the right reasons. That's what they need to hire.”
Followed up asking if the program needs someone like him with the Hurricanes, that understands the region and the program; a Sidney Lowe-type even though that didn’t end up working for NC State.
“Well, that's maybe a different reason, but it’s the right guy, if you get what I mean. A guy that appreciates here. In today's college atmosphere. I don't know — it's different. There's no loyalty anymore, clearly. I mean, it'd be nice if you get that feeling back. That's what was so great about college. You go to a school, and you're part of it forever. And what are we doing? And this a prime example.
“I'm sure there's a guy out there that still has that attachment to the place. I think that would be a start. If we want these kids to stick around, how do you — I don't know, it just blows my mind that that's how that all went down. But I think he did them a favor.”

A surprise worth waiting for.
The @Elliott_Avent Clubhouse will remain a permanent part of Doak Field, inspiring future generations of Wolfpack baseball players to uphold the standard coach Avent helped create.

For more than two decades of service, including 15 years as President Pro Tempore, @SenatorBerger has led with discipline, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to North Carolina. His impact on our state and our institution will be felt for generations.
I am aware that conversations have begun about the future leadership of the Senate. I respect those who are engaging in those discussions, and I am prepared to step forward to provide the leadership needed to meet the challenges ahead and to guide the Senate into its next chapter.
But today is not about the next chapter. It is about recognizing and appreciating the extraordinary leadership of Senator Berger.
There will be an appropriate time for those discussions. For now, we pause to thank a leader who has given so much to this state and to the Senate.
