The initial version of the Pi Launchpad has been released as a Pi App on the Testnet with a test token! Because the Launchpad introduces new concepts for many Pioneers and uses mechanisms that differ from typical token launches in Web3, it is being introduced on Testnet first so the community can become familiar with how the process works before the Mainnet launch. How Pi Network Launchpad Could Build a New Digital Economy In most crypto projects today, the token is launched first and the product is promised later. This often leads to speculation, scams, and failed roadmaps. The Pi Network Launchpad follows a different approach. Projects must already have a working application and real users before launching a token. This ensures real usage and immediate utility, meaning the token’s value is connected to an actual product. Another key feature is permanently locked liquidity. In many crypto launches, projects create liquidity pools and later remove the liquidity, causing the token price to crash a common scam known as a rug pull. With the Pi Launchpad, when pioneers commit Pi, it goes directly into the liquidity pool while the project contributes its tokens. The liquidity wallet is then permanently locked, meaning the liquidity cannot be withdrawn and rug pulls become impossible. The ecosystem structure is also different. In most ecosystems, tokens are paired with assets like USDT or ETH. In the Pi ecosystem, tokens will be paired with Pi. This creates a structure where app tokens, game tokens, and service tokens are all paired with Pi, allowing Pi to become the central liquidity asset of the ecosystem, similar to how **Ethereum functions within its ecosystem. Token distribution will also reward real users instead of whales or bots. Allocation will depend on PiPower (staking) and user engagement with the application. Actions such as registering in the app, completing onboarding, using features, and reaching milestones will contribute to an engagement score. Users with higher engagement scores may receive better token pricing. Another interesting mechanism is price protection. Because Pi goes into the liquidity pool and that liquidity is permanently locked, the token price cannot fall to zero even if many participants sell their tokens. According to the PiRC model, the theoretical minimum price could be around 23.8% of the listing price. For example, if a project launches with a listing price of 1 Pi per token and pioneers contribute 1000 Pi to the liquidity pool while the project adds 1000 tokens, the pool becomes 1000 Pi to 1000 tokens. If people begin selling their tokens, Pi will gradually leave the pool, but some Pi will always remain. Based on the AMM formula, the worst-case price could be around 0.238 Pi per token. This means the price can drop, but it cannot reach zero because the liquidity remains permanently locked. The goal of this model is to focus on real applications, real users, permanent liquidity, and community participation. Instead of pure speculation, it aims to build a utility-driven ecosystem. If this model works as intended, the **Pi Network ecosystem could grow rapidly, potentially supporting millions of applications, with Pi becoming the central liquidity coin. One question many pioneers ask is how they benefit if the liquidity is locked forever. The answer is that when pioneers commit Pi, they receive the project’s tokens in return. If the application becomes successful and demand for the token increases, the token price may rise. Pioneers can then sell their tokens for profit.
