She now needs regular treatment at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London, but as a low-income pensioner without a car, the £90 return fare for her and her husband is simply unaffordable. The couple have been forced to skip meals, eat plainly and sell off belongings just to scrape together travel money. Donna has already missed some appointments because of the cost and is now facing major surgery next week followed by five weeks of daily radiotherapy in Southampton, another £1,000 in fares she cannot raise.
