Found another one of these beetles at work, but this one was alive! It was on a brick wall, and when I got close, it jumped and made me scream 😱 It fell on its back, so I picked it up and moved it to the grass. My coworkers thought I was crazy because of its huge pincers, but I explained they’re mostly for sparring and attracting the ladies. 🪲🎀✨️ As long as you’re not sticking your fingers in its mouth, it’s perfectly safe!

In this post I accidentally insinuated Pestar had bad costume design, but I don't think thats true. I think based on the characters design and when the costume was made, this is likely the best they could do at the time. It just doesn't read well and is really dated.

Thinking about it, wouldn't it be fun to be one of the actors wearing the kaiju costumes in Ultraman or Godzilla, stomping around and crushing miniature landscapes? I'd be like this:

I’ve never watched much tokusatsu like Ultraman or Super Sentai, but I’ve researched costumes, character designs, and lore. I find it all so interesting!! I love learning about characters and the thought that goes into designing them! Lots of tokusatsu has crazy cool costumes!!

@Kh1d0rah1an Yeah I agree. I think if they redid this now and added just a bit of CGI or even just mechanics into the suit they could probably keep that living look while making it seem less like two men in starfish costumes.

though Pestar kinda has that living look because of all the folds of the suit. I could see something like it genuinely existing.

I know it goes against the principles of believable storytelling, but sometimes I love bad special effects and costume design. I find them incredibly endearing and entertaining.

@Kh1d0rah1an Googled because I've never really watched Ultraman to be honest: I do like Antimatters design alot! Its a lot more sleek and creepy!

@PrimoTeddy I guess, but Ultraman gaia redid the concept with Antimatter (iirc) and it looks far better.
