I am saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Job Masakhue Lukuru Obwaka, a distinguished obstetrician and gynaecologist who gave decades of his life to the health and wellbeing of Kenyan women. His service at The Nairobi Hospital leaves a legacy that will endure long after us. To his family, colleagues, and all who knew him, may you find comfort and strength in this season of grief.

Naivas and Quickmart, there’s something strange happening at your stores that many Kenyans can relate to, but few talk about. How does someone walk into your supermarket, go straight to pick milk, pay at the cashier, and then, on the way out, the theft alarm suddenly goes off? Suddenly, everyone is looking at you. Security stops you. Your bags are searched and even humiliated. And for a moment, you’re standing there trying to prove you’re not a thief. Many Kenyans know that feeling. That confusion. That embarrassment. That anger. And what makes it worse is that in many cases, it’s not even because of anything taken from the supermarket. It could be a book bought elsewhere. Shoes bought online, e.g., at Jumia. Earphones from China Square. Yet the alarm still goes off, and you are the one left embarrassed. So what exactly are these systems detecting? And what do you want Kenyans to wear when going to your supermarkets? Because if items bought legally somewhere else can trigger your alarms, then innocent customers are being humiliated for no reason. And supermarkets have CCTV. You can verify what someone picked and paid for. So why is the first response to search and embarrass the customer instead of checking first? A lot of Kenyans have gone through this and kept quiet because it’s embarrassing. But it keeps happening. Many are traumatized to the point that they even avoid certain stores. This is not just about security. It’s about dignity. And customers deserve better.

US troops are not in Germany to protect Germany. They’re there because the US needs bases to conduct operations beyond the North American continent. If Trump withdraws them, he will harm the United States, not Germany. It’s absurd how many Americans fail to grasp this.

Mary Ongar asked me to thank every single person who has called, prayed, shared her story and sent whatever little they could to support her. Wonderful people, the response has overwhelmed her emotionally. Today I watched an old woman who had almost lost hope break down in tears because strangers somewhere chose kindness. For the first time in a long time, she feels seen. She feels remembered. She feels loved. She kept saying: “I did not know people still cared.” Some of the amounts sent may look small to others, but to Mary they mean food, dignity, hope and another reason to keep fighting. This has reminded me that humanity is still alive among ordinary Kenyans even when times are hard for everyone. Thank you for proving that compassion still exists. Thank you for refusing to scroll past her pain. Thank you for becoming the answer to a prayer she had carried silently for years. May God bless every hand that gave, every person who shared the message and every soul that stood with Mary Ongar. Please continue standing with her 0700393695. The journey is not over yet, but today an old woman somewhere in Sidindi near Kutana is sleeping with hope in her heart instead of despair. And that matters. Glory to God the provider. May your acts of kindness be the reason he opens doors for you and me.

.@RealMatiangi, you defied numerous court orders, abducted, drugged, and deported a Kenyan citizen. You ran death squads that killed people and dumped their bodies in the River Yala. Between August and October 2017, police acting on your orders killed over 100 opposition supporters and raped women. I’m sharing a link to the 2017 Human Rights Watch report, in case you have forgotten the monster you were while serving as Cabinet Secretary for the Interior Ministry. hrw.org/report/2017/10…

The reported blocking of the TuKo Kadi concert team from accessing Uhuru Park, despite months of compliance with all required approvals, is deeply troubling. It reflects a worrying pattern of intolerance and state interference that undermines the freedoms of expression, assembly, and enterprise. When lawful, youth-driven initiatives are frustrated in this manner, it raises serious concerns about the direction we are taking as a country. We must remain vigilant. This moment calls for renewed civic awareness, sustained mobilization, and deliberate civic education, especially among our young people. If public events that follow due process can be arbitrarily blocked, then we must begin to ask hard questions about the fairness of our democratic space as we approach the next elections. Kenya must be a nation where rules are respected, opportunities are protected, and every voice is allowed to be heard.

Today on my way to Sidindi market, I witnessed something that has shaken me deeply. I had stopped briefly to greet a neighbour when an elderly woman approached him and humbly asked if he could give her any work to do, even if it was just weeding a small section of his farm so she could earn something to buy food. The neighbour looked at her sadly and told her she was too weak to work. He said her body looked frail, her legs could barely support her, and she needed rest more than labour. He even told her she should be at home as her children or grandchildren take care of her at her age. But the painful truth is this woman has no children. No grandchildren. No husband. No one. The man reached into his pocket and gave her Ksh 50. She bent slowly in gratitude, thanked him respectfully, and walked away struggling. I tried to continue with my journey, but something inside me refused. I stopped greeting the neighbour midway and followed her. She led me to her small home near Kutana and I promised her I would return later in the day. Today I kept that promise. And that is when the full reality hit me. Her name is Mary Ongar. Her number is 0700393695. I found her living alone in a collapsing house. Her legs are badly bent and deformed, her body weak, and every movement she makes is painful to watch. Yet despite everything, she still smiled and thanked God for life. When I asked her who takes care of her, she quietly answered: “Jesus is my husband.” Those words broke me completely. Wonderful people, this is the reality many villagers are facing silently. People are not refusing to help because they are heartless. Everyone is struggling. Hunger, poverty and hopelessness have become normal in many homes. Meanwhile leaders are busy in Nairobi trading insults, propaganda and endless politics while forgotten Kenyans like Mary suffer alone without food, proper shelter, roads, healthcare or dignity. Mary is not asking for millions. She only asked for a small chance to survive: A sack of omena. A crate of onions. A small business she can manage to feed herself. That is all. I am pleading with every compassionate Kenyan: Please let us stand with Mary Ongar. Ksh 10. Ksh 20. Ksh 50. Ksh 100. Anything small can help. Her number is: 0700393695 Please do not ignore her. Sometimes humanity is measured by whether we stop when others are suffering. Let us remind this old woman that she is not alone.

@orengo_james @kaari_murungi Your Excellency, please look into the plight of this citizen. Maybe start with a free medical service for her sickly body and then a small business to keep her going. That would really be a big blessing! @_Sakko @of_siaya @YACHSiaya @SiayaFinest041

Following criticism of Kenya Airways by South African entrepreneur Vusi Thembekwayo, acclaimed Zimbabwean journalist @daddyhope shared his own troubling encounter with the airline, declaring he would avoid flying with them again unless absolutely necessary. In a viral post from April 2026, he described a return journey from Harare to Nairobi, onward to New York and Boston, where he was later stranded at JFK Airport on his way back after discovering his name had been removed from the system despite having a valid boarding pass. According to him, airline staff were indifferent and allowed the flight to leave without him, later offering a downgraded economy seat on KLM, which he declined, resulting in a two-day rerouting through Amsterdam. Chin'ono criticized the airline’s discourteous service and failure to apologize, contrasting the experience with Ethiopian Airlines, which he said offers better reliability and connectivity despite its own shortcomings. He called on African airlines to prioritize respect and professionalism, pointing to ongoing concerns about inefficiency in the industry. I have personally flown with Kenya Airways multiple times, and as a Kenyan, stories like this feel all too familiar. The level of disorganization and poor customer care can be incredibly frustrating~missed connections, unclear communication, and a general sense that passengers are an afterthought rather than a priority. Experiences like Chin'ono’s don’t even feel shocking anymore; they highlight a deeper, ongoing problem that many travelers have quietly endured for years.
