8th grade heard the story 'The Christmas Owl' and then had a choice board which included researching the history of famous Christmas trees, writing about what they learned and creating an animated gif. 🦉🎄@NISDRawlinson

My heart is so full! I’m beyond grateful n humbled 2 b named TAEA Middle School Art Teacher of d Year. This isn’t just my award — it belongs 2 everyone who’s believed in me along the way. 💛 2 my talented dad — thank you for passing down not just your beautiful hair (😉) but your drawing skills, your “think outside d box” creativity, and your artistic heart. I was given a gift, and I’ve chosen to pursue it with all my passion. Love you, daddy. 🎨 To my late professor, Carlos G Gomez. (RIP) — thank you for seeing something in me that I didn’t yet see in myself. Your lectures (and those long talks 😂), your scholarship, and your passion for your students lit a fire in me that still burns. I will always be grateful for your guidance and belief in me. Literally without him I would not be where I am today. I told you this when you were alive and you shied away from it (always grumpy but I know you loved me lol) but you know it was true. You will always be my teacher hero. To my art boss, Teri Yasger, who always has our backs — thank you for leading with heart, creativity, and problem-solving magic. No matter the challenge, you somehow make it work for us. To my art family — thank you for being my daily inspiration. You push me to be a better teacher every day (even on the days it’s not easy 😉). Your dedication to our students reminds me why what we do matters so much. To my principal, Sherry Mireles thank you for always supporting my shenanigans and recognizing the importance of the arts in our students’ lives. The school gets a little art crazy loud in seasons, 😂. Huge thanks to my amazing coworker and friend, Bridgette Coker, who always says “yes” never questions and adds to my crazy shenanigans! You make every day more fun, creative, and full of laughter — even on the days we question our sanity 😂. I couldn’t imagine this journey without you! 🎨💛 And to my students — you are my inspiration every single day. Your creativity, curiosity, and courage to express yourselves make teaching the best job in the world. Even when I’ve had enough of YOUR shenanigans lol, and like I tell you, well if I can’t beat them join them hahahaha to many more years of shenanigans and memories…. Its True when they say it take a village. I love my village! I’m overflowing with gratitude. Thank you for being part of this journey with me. 🎨💛✨ love you all“ I teach art because I believe every student deserves a place to see the world through their own eyes, to create without limits, and to discover the courage to express their true selves. Art is more than a subject — it’s a voice, a spark, and a journey.

Who says 8th graders don't like to sing and dance to nursery rhymes?! Our PHS kids not only learned the importance of early literacy but also how it's important to incorporate music and movement. @NISDRawlinson

Today our PHS 8th grade kids came in with their flour babies for a babies and books lesson. They learned why early literacy is important, heard a story, sang some nursery rhymes and then read a book to their baby. 👶🏼❤️📖@NISDRawlinson
