A few weeks ago, we received an urgent request about a young puppy found injured in an industrial area in Ukraine.💔 He had been hit by a car and was in visible pain when our ROLDA Rescue team arrived. We transported him immediately to the veterinary clinic, where X-rays confirmed the extent of the injury to his leg. He remained under close veterinary supervision while his body began the slow process of healing. We’re so happy to share that today, his leg is healed, and this sweet puppy is running around again as all puppies should! 🥹 Once the veterinarian gives final clearance, we will begin preparing him for adoption so he can finally have the second chance he deserves! We searched for four days to find this tiny kitten whose eyes were so severely injured they were bulging from his head 💔 When our ROLDA Hero finally found Alfie, he was driven straight to the vet. At just three months old, he underwent surgery to remove both eyes. Unfortunately, infection complicated his recovery, and he then developed a rectal prolapse, which required a second operation to save his colon. Today, he continues recovering in the care of a cat sanctuary we support, where he can regain strength before the next step in his journey. Cases like Alfie’s require more than one emergency intervention. They require sustained medical care, monitoring, and safe rehabilitation, which we can only provide because of your ongoing support. Our mum found her forever home. Now it’s our turn 🐾💛 Hi, we’re Terri and Pippi, two 8-month-old sisters who have been growing up in the shelter together after being rescued from the streets with our mum, Tania. Little Lara and Marley have officially found their forever home together 💛 These two best friends have been through a lot over the past few years, but they’re now settling in so well and slowly building their new routine. Teddy was the only dog left at our shelter with a docked tail, and that meant his future was uncertain. When new UK legislation signalled stricter entry rules for dogs with docked tails, we knew time was running out to make sure this boy got the second chance at life he deserved. Teddy needed to travel before those changes made his journey even more complicated. In January, he made it to the UK into emergency foster placement! Like many young rescue dogs, the transition came with adjustment. With patience and support, Teddy moved into a more settled foster home with one of our ROLDA team members, where he could practise his good boy skills, build confidence, and simply be the cutest puppy that he is. Four weeks later, everything changed in the best way! Teddy was adopted into the most wonderful home. His forever family absolutely adore him, and he is settling beautifully. This happened because our community shared his story, stepped in to foster, helped provide nutritious meals, and donated to his care. Remember these two tiny puppies who were found alone in a box, in the rain? We have the BEST update! At the beginning of winter, four puppies were abandoned in a box in a rural field near Târgu Frumos. After days of heavy rain and cold, only two were still alive when an elderly woman finally opened the box. They were soaked, fragile, and barely able to cry. One of our ROLDA Heroes immediately sprang into action, and the puppies were brought into warmth and safety. They were kept indoors, dewormed, vaccinated, and given time to rest. They slept beside gentle cats before slowly gaining the confidence to explore and play. Through it all, littleLetti and Lisette never left each other’s side. Keeping them together was important to us because their bond was their comfort. They had already lost so much and couldn’t lose each other, too. And just a few weeks ago, they were adopted into a forever home where they will grow up side by side, safe and loved. Little Zinga was found blind and alone in the snow, but it did not stop her from becoming a mountain explorer, a search-trained dog, and a deeply loved family member 🐾❄️ Rescued by ROLDA and adopted to Norway in 2017, Zinga’s life took a turn no one could have imagined. Today, she hikes through the mountains, goes on adventures with her dog siblings, and lives life to the absolute fullest. Despite being blind and partially deaf, Zinga was trained to help locate lost dogs in the Norwegian mountains. Her world may look different, but it has never been smaller. Zinga’s adopter went on to become a ROLDA Ambassador and even wrote a book inspired by her journey, helping Zinga’s story reach far beyond the moment she was rescued 📖 As part of our 20 Years of Impact series, we’re reflecting on some of the rescues that show what a second chance can truly mean. Twenty years ago, ROLDA started with a clear goal: to create shelters that felt like homes for animals, even in a country where animal rescue was seen as unrealistic and unsustainable. From the beginning, ROLDA worked in one of the poorest regions of Romania, where many people struggled to meet basic needs and where asking for local support felt impossible. Rescue work, veterinary care, and the idea of ethical shelters were often seen as things that belonged somewhere else. Our vision slowly began to take shape, and over the last two decades we’ve had two ethical shelters that have served as a home to thousands of animals. Along the way, we created systems, learned difficult lessons, and became a refuge for dogs who had nowhere else to go. Over the years, one thing became clear. We needed a bigger shelter, where we could do things differently. That is why PawzUp exists. What once felt like a distant daydream has now become the foundations of Romania’s first-ever cage-free shelter 🐾 PawzUp is the next step after twenty years of learning what animals and communities actually need. It is designed to bring veterinary care, shelter, rehabilitation, and education together in one place, serving a vast region where animals still die because help is too far away. Could you help Garik walk again? ❤️‍🩹 Garik was found in Ukraine by one of our ROLDA Rescue Heroes (an independent animal rescuer we support), lying on the ground and unable to stand after being badly attacked by other dogs. He had no movement in his back legs and was in severe pain. Without urgent medical intervention, Garik would not have survived on the street. Thanks to your support, we were able to ensure he was rushed to the vets, where his injuries were assessed, and treatment began immediately. His recovery is still ongoing, and with the right care, rehabilitation, and time, there is a real possibility that Garik could learn to walk again. His recovery requires ongoing veterinary treatment, pain management, and rehabilitation support, and Garik will need continued care to give him the best possible chance.
