@im_mansigupta Come to think about it, it's kinda amazing that challenging euro-centric norms like GMT is actually a part of the decolonizing agenda that can be best argued by Indian social and political scientists, and historians, folks that माननीय मंत्री महोदय probably despise the most :)

It's such a deep insult to hard working scientists choosing to work in India, often under low resource setups, that the "scientific community" is expected to "implement" such inane ideas. What are they supposed to do about it? GMT is just a standard that the world uses. What "empirical evidence" is the "scientific community" supposed to produce?
These clowns are delegitimizing ancient India's scientific contributions as well as pushing an already abysmal system further into the ground.
There is a reason why schooling system is not improved and people are kept functionally illiterate. Who will take such terrible ideas seriously?

An epidemiologist would ask 2 questions after admitting that the extent of effect is incorrectly exaggerated -
1. Is the direction of effect correct?
2. Does the direction matter more than the extent from a pragmatic policy pov?

for making these points towards equitable publishing
1. Articles from first, corresponding, or senior authors from low-income countries and LMICs should be exempt from APC charges.
2. The APC charges should be kept to a minimum for all researchers whose publishing fees are not covered by a grant or an institutional publishing agreement, regardless of country income level, to allow scientists and readers from all areas to publish and access relevant research without barriers.

As someone who has worked as a surgeon across Indian healthcare he is right. The cost in isolation doesn’t matter. Can ordinary people access care without financial stress? And does everyone get reasonable & quick care irrespective of ability to pay? These are key metrics.

You should not control for these factors, because they all are downstream of gender on the causal pathway.
Think about Mad Men S1. There was no pay gap between men and women when you controlled for gender - because women were prohibited from high paying positions.

My education policy is: No Indian man should be allowed to touch a math/science book until they excel at psychosexual curriculum (PSC) from Std 1-5. Start other subjects later. They'll catch up. But PSC is important for their sake & that of the entire Indian society & diaspora.
