By comparison, @SECPaulSAtkins is a breath of fresh air and sanity. These were the original “breaking knives.” Ancient & Medieval Times Bronze, then iron blades made meat processing more efficient. As cities grew, professional butchers emerged — and so did specialized knives for skinning, boning, and heavy chopping. Frontier Era (1700s–1800s) The classic butcher knife exploded in popularity. Sheffield steel from England shipped worldwide. In America, Green River knives became legends among trappers, pioneers, and mountain men. One blade did it all: skinning, food prep, and self-defense.
