Without any architectural or design review, or public outreach, Donald Trump ripped down the McKim Mead & White-designed East Wing, dating to 1902 under Theodore Roosevelt. In its place, Trump is building a 90,000 sq ft ballroom, almost double the size of the Grand Central Terminal main concourse and waiting room combined. Imagine putting a railroad station next to the White House. The humongous ballroom is completely outsized for the 55,000 ft White House next to it. Trump does this because he acts as an absolute monarch, treating the White House, which is Government property like Mar-A-Lago, or perhaps like Louis XIV would treat the Versailles palace as his to do whatever he wants.
