#Cowboys star player & pass rusher Micah Parsons on how the #Saints defended against him in ways he had never seen before. He gave Klint Kubiak's offense props calling it creative.

@RevDeuceWindham @WhoDatDevlin I think there are exceptions to this rule. If you believe a guy could be in the top…say 3-5% of the league as a RB, I have zero issue taking him in the first

Potentially unpopular post. My #Saints opinion: NOLA would be making a several year mistake to take a RB in the 1st round. Yes. I agree, there are some extremely talented players who play RB. Equally as talented players with much better positional value in range.

@brad85davis The Saints have only drafted 2 RBs in Rounds 2-3 in the past 10 years. AK and Miller. They haven't been trying to fill that position. AK obviously was incredibly successful. Miller was talented but could never stay healthy. Hardly examples you can write them off with.

@RevDeuceWindham And you speak like the Saints have been killing it with late round RBs. Great for other teams, but the Saints have repeatedly been failing at taking RB prospects in later rounds.

As with every year, we'll have to wait and see. I certainly don't have the contacts inside the facility I once did when I covered the team. I still talk to a couple here/there. I don't think NOLA is super high on Love at 8. That said, random convos with old friends is nothing to base anything on. This is just Twitter convo.

@RevDeuceWindham You're the one who started with hypotheticals lol. I want to see why you're so convinced a better talent at a higher priority position will be available. I don't see it. There are many, many more people who have Love top 5 than top 15. I'm confident the Saints are among them.

@saintsfutballhq Ingram struggled (mostly because for the first few years they used him only as a bruiser instead of a one-cut) and didn't make a Pro-Bowl for 4 years. If that was Love's trajectory, Saints fans would be irate.

@RevDeuceWindham Mark Ingram helped the offense at the time. Love will surely do it for us this season and the years to follow. Lot of good backs this draft but don’t forget that the pool this year is Love , then (wide chasm gap) the next RB in the draft. Give me the high end talent

@RevDeuceWindham @JonoBarnes Reggie brought aura to the team as well. He brought a lot of eyes to the team. How many prime time games did we have last year? How many do you think we’ll get if we draft Love?

I feel like you're just trying to corner me into a realm of hypotheticals. I don't know how the draft will go. if I did, I'd be super rich from putting some bets down lol. Downs/Bain/Tyson/Styles/McCoy(Injury history flag, obv). It's all relative to who is building the scouting reports and what that person likes. Some people have Love as a consensus Top 5. Then there are some who don't even have him in the Top 15.

@Terrancetaplin @JonoBarnes Was actually having this convo with another reply. Great example. Could I wave a magic wand, I'd take Williams over Bush 10 times out 10, even knowing the SB outcome. Reggie's actually a great example of the *dangers* of drafting a RB so high.

@john_siglerr Sig, you also have been around long enough to know you *never* trust mock drafts. You've been a pro at this for over a decade. It's easy to get sucked into the hype of the NFL draft, but there will be 1-2 players who "drop".

@RevDeuceWindham You still haven't told me who the WR/LB/EDGE/S that will be available at 8 is. As someone who looks at as many boards as anyone, I'm telling you they aren't there.

@john_siglerr Same, which is why I'll save the RB for Rounds 2-3, where the majority of the success is, and get a much needed WR/LB/EDGE/S

It's the continual debate. "He might be bluechip, but is he our blue chip". GMs and front offices have to figure that out for themselves. This stuff never operates in a vacuum. There are places a "blue chip" can go and have an absolutely awful career. Same chip can go to another team and become a instant All-Pro.

@RevDeuceWindham I agree, but there are prospects like Bijan and Saqon that I think were prospects worthy of their draft capital, but I'd be straining to name 5 guys since 2000 that were that level of prospect.

I did a pretty massive breakdown (admittedly 5 years ago) that showed this wasn't the case. That 3rd rounders provided "more" value (depending on what advanced analytics is important to you). Over the past 4 years, there have been x2 as many RBs in the 2nd round compared tothe 1st round that finished in the Top 10 for the position (not including rds 3+)

@RevDeuceWindham Third round RB's have a significantly lower hit rate than first rounders. It's very much a position where you get what you pay for. If you try to cut corners, like the Saints have the last five years, you're going to have the league's least-explosive run game because of it.

@brad85davis Most of the elite RBs in this league aren't Top 10 selections. They're mostly in the 2nd-4th rounds. You speak to Day 2 RBs like that's not the *majority* of the Top 10 RBs over the past 4 years.

@RevDeuceWindham We’ve seen elite/really good RBs be productive behind trash o-lines. It’s definitely a choice to die on a hill that the Saints should just continue to only get day 2/3 RBs that won’t change this offense.

@RevDeuceWindham @brad85davis Good thing there’s free agency and the draft doesn’t stop at 8. This team hasn’t had a game changing offensive player since 2020 AK. Go get the game changer

For me it always comes back to the Reggie Bush debate. Guys can be special. Sometimes that collegiate specialness translates, sometimes it doesn't. But just like Bush wasn't "worth" his top selection (but we still loved having him) I see the same with Love. Potentially great player. Could you let me choose between Mario Williams and Reggie Bush I take Williams every time.

@RevDeuceWindham The cap might be $370M by Year 4 of his contract. That's 2.8% of the cap. Making this big of a deal over a difference of 1.6% of the salary cap is missing the forest for the trees And that fifth year option? Depending on playtime and Pro Bowls it's worth $6.6M to $14.2M. Come on
