Canadian made Roshel Senator takes a russian drone and keeps going. No one hurt, no big damage

Minister McGuinty visited the Roshel production facility in Brampton, Ontario, to highlight how Canadian industry is supporting Ukraine through the production of armoured vehicles for Ukraine’s Armed Forces. canada.ca/en/department-…

Roshel hosted Minister of National Defence @DavidMcGuinty to showcase the impact of investing in Canadian defence manufacturing. Canada is donating 383 Senator armoured vehicles, built in Canada, to support Ukraine, while creating skilled jobs in Brampton.

We look forward to connecting at International Armoured Vehicles (Booth F6) tomorrow in Farnborough, United Kingdom. Our team will be on site to meet in person and present our combat-proven Senator.

This week, I am participating in the Government of Canada’s trade mission, led by Minister @MSidhuLiberal P.C., M.P. , to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The mission is focused on expanding international partnerships and opening new markets for Canadian companies. For firms like Roshel, trade diversification is not an abstract policy discussion. It is about securing long term demand, strengthening Canada’s industrial base, and supporting nearly 500 high value Canadian jobs in Brampton, Ontario.

Today, Ontario formally put forward Toronto as the proposed headquarters for the Defence Bank. For Ontario based defence manufacturers like Roshel, this matters. It supports domestic production, resilient supply chains, and keeps capital aligned with real industrial capacity in Ontario.

Roshel’s delivery of the 2,000th Senator vehicle, in support of Ukraine, was enabled by the trust and continued cooperation of Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and Ukraine.

Other countries can brag about their homegrown car industry. We Canadians can't but we do have a homegrown tactical armoured car called the Roshel Senator.

Another video from Ukraine shows a Senator vehicle being struck by a drone. The crew survived and was able to return safely because the vehicle continued to perform as designed. Moments like these remind us why this work matters. These vehicles are protecting lives and helping Ukrainian personnel make it back home. This would not be possible without the continued support from Canada and our allied partners.

Great to visit @RoshelDefence, a local Brampton manufacturer supporting more than 500 good jobs. Their armored vehicles are built here at home and shipped around the world. Canada’s defence industry supports 81,000 jobs nationwide, and Roshel is a powerful example of how Canadian companies can compete and grow globally. This is what trade diversification looks like.

Today, in Stockholm, I met with leaders of major Swedish companies to strengthen economic and industrial ties between Canada and Sweden. We discussed Canada's priorities and the deepening of our partnerships.
