If you run out the clock on your redistricting map, then 'it's fine' is an extremely dangerous precedent we are setting.

I love @SteveKornacki, but he’s wrong here, because he misunderstands the nature of evangelical Christianity in the South.
Thus, his analysis mistattributes the political character of Williamson County — which is arguably the birthplace of modern southern evangelicalism.
It did not meaningfully “step away” from Trump in 2016 or 2020 — certainly not in the way we saw in the Atlanta or Raleigh suburbs.
The comparison simply doesn’t hold.
To see why, you have to understand the two very different strands of American evangelicalism, a distinction most political commentary misses.
One strand comes out of historic mainline Protestantism. These are families who were once Baptist, Methodist, or Presbyterian and shifted into evangelical churches over time.
They often have Democratic lineage in their background — think Jimmy Carter — and they remain more culturally flexible and occasionally swing-curious.
But Williamson County’s evangelicals are overwhelmingly the second strand: they were never mainline Protestants to begin with.
Their churches didn’t evolve out of old denominational life; many were founded in gyms, storefronts, or living rooms.
They are products of the Falwell-era Religious Right and have been politically conservative from day one.
Even when Middle Tennessee was blue, Williamson County was not.
There is no generational Democratic muscle memory in this population — no latent blue affinity waiting to be reactivated.
That’s why the expectation that Aftyn Behn could move the needle in Williamson as much as other communities was always misplaced.
Voters there are not suburban moderates in the mold of northern Atlanta, northern Virginia, or the Research Triangle.
They are structurally Republican, culturally conservative, and historically aligned with the GOP.
No one working on the ground expected a dramatic shift.
