It don’t matter how old you are, just like this 94 year old army veteran, if you have a ball, a glove and a wall, you will have one hell of a time.

During one of the worst losing streaks of my career, our team president walked into my office. Keli McGregor. One of the best men I've ever known. He could have come to vent. To question my decisions. To ask hard questions. Instead, he said: "Cut to the chase, Clint. What's next?" I looked him in the eye and gave him two words: "Shower well." The Colorado Rockies were struggling badly that year. Pregame preparation was solid. Scout meetings, early work, attention to detail. All of it was there. But at game time, the tires were flat. I told Keli: the game did everything it could to us today. We just couldn't meet its demands. Now it was time to reset. "Shower well" means exactly this: • Watch the frustration circle down the drain • Shampoo, rinse, repeat and get the grime of today completely off your mind • Walk out clean, go home, and actually rest Leave it at the ballpark. The game is over. There's nothing left to solve tonight. Keli nodded. Asked if he could share it with the whole organization. I said sure. And then it hit me. This isn't just for baseball. Bad day at the office. Grumpy boss. Missed deadline. Traffic on the way home. You can carry all of that through your front door. Or you can shower well. I've never seen a single problem get better because someone dragged it home with them. The reset is a discipline. Same as preparation. Same as showing up. Either we win. Or we learn. The only real loss? When you don't take a single thing out of a hard day. So tonight, whatever kind of day it was, shower well. Tomorrow is a new at-bat. What does your reset look like? I'd love to hear it.

Players: Enjoy your HS playing days. There’s nothing like playing in front of a crowd of your community members, friends & family & playing alongside classmates. The sense of community & school pride is unbeatable. Relish it; rejoice in it; respect it. It’s over before you know.

I've seen too many parents force-feeding their hopes, dreams, and desires on their children. Very rarely does it work out well. God gives us freedom of choice My son, Christian, retired from baseball when he was 4. He chose karate, then tennis, then crew. Sports I knew nothing about. He stole the two basic things every dad needs: the ability to second-guess the coach and over-coach his own kid. All I could do was show up, drive, and cheer. And when the game was over, I'd just say "I loved watching you do what you do." Some parents say, "I'll let him do whatever he wants, and maybe he'll come back to baseball." Stop. You just ruined it. You're still holding on. Your job as a parent isn't to mold them into who you want them to be. It's to put them in the best position to be happy and successful at what THEY love to do. Our children aren't here to live out OUR dreams. They're here to discover their own.

Dodgers holding tryouts in Puerto Rico for local players including bottom right of the photo wearing a #12 on his back - 18-year-old Roberto Clemente, Sept 17, 1952. The camp was attended by approximately 72 players, with only Roberto Clemente being invited back for further consideration. Key Individuals Dodgers scout Al Campanis oversaw the event and was highly impressed by Clemente's throwing arm, reportedly saying, "I couldn't believe my eyes" after watching him throw from the outfield. The Dodgers did not sign Clemente to a major league contract at this time, but the tryout led to him catching the eye of Pedrín Zorrilla, who signed him to his first professional contract with the Cangrejeros de Santurce of the Puerto Rican Winter League shortly after.

You know what I've learned as a dad? Sometimes your kids don't follow the path you walked. And that's exactly how it should be. My son Christian retired from baseball at the age of 4. He's now in culinary school. When I talk about pastries and baking with him, it's like when my dad talked to me about playing catch or hitting. His eyes light up. His heart starts beating. If he had a tail, I could see it wagging. He absolutely loves it! What do you want as a father for your kids? You want them to find something they love, that they can hold on to and pour themselves into. God put all three of my kids in my life to transform me. They didn't come here to be mini versions of Clint. They came to show me what surrendering looks like. What unconditional love means. Being a dad taught me more about leadership than any dugout ever could.
