@SimonettaCarr @deumcole And I fully understand the gift that kids are, but I don’t know if not having children is “immoral”

@SimonettaCarr @deumcole It’s interesting that he chose a game that is 10-12 years beyond its peak. Maybe he should have said FarmVille, that would show the kids what’s what. And if you can or can’t control it. What’s wrong with me and my wife not having kids?

it doesn’t have the same connotations that it once did…Chicago in the 1880’s was a hotbed of socialism…and the day became associated with International communism. President Cleveland chose the current (labor day) date purposely to disassociate the current holiday from communism….

I discovered that International Labor Day, set on May 1, started in the US after a violent workers' protest in Chicago. The US moved it to September to detach it from its socialist roots. Now Americans celebrate it with hamburgers and hotdogs. American history is fascinating.

@theistinthought I like to look at these things from a historical point of view. In my kids' podcast, we're just covering the 19th century with the church's responses to the problems of industrialization, which included mistreatment of workers. It's interesting. History is instructive.

@DBryanRhodes @JonathanL75978 Without missing or denying the point here, it's also worth noting that, for some reason, having a baby in a 3rd world country doesn't cost $20,000.

The Reformed church used to be known for its zeal for souls. William Carey, Hudson Taylor, George Whitefield, Adoniram Judson, David Brainerd, Charles Spurgeon, John Eliot, Henry Martyn, all five-point Calvinists. Calvin’s Geneva alone sent out 88 pastors to hostile France in a span of seven years, which bloomed into 2,000 congregations at a time when France was very violent to the gospel. But Reformed evangelism today, alas, who can find it?

@theistinthought I see the ubiquity as a good thing, assuming it raises food for thought. And the litmus test depends on what you're trying to determine. I'm just interested in what he has to say and take it at face value.

@SimonettaCarr It’s odd that he is ubiquitous across media outlets, including leftist ones. Doesn’t make sense as an organic development. His writing books and attending a seminary is not a good litmus test to me (just my view).

This new Ben Sasse obsession feels very astroturfed. One bad indicator is that shadowy sources like NYT, 60 Minutes and Mike Pence endorse (or at least platform) him so readily. Also, in all of these interviews, Sasse is saying largely what he has been saying his entire political career. Same kind of 2008 GOP neocon stuff sprinkled with elementary Bible quotes. When lib media and neocons combine to push certain content out of nowhere, there is likely a pro-leftism purpose and plan in place.

@fishstark @BenSasse His solution refers to an attitude. I wouldn't think it's mean to be taken literally. Your solution hasn't been working in Europe, where birth rates have dropped to a historic low. I suspect the answer lies elsewhere.

All right @BenSasse, let's make a bet. Let's divide the US in half. I'll let you pick which half. In your half, you ban Candy Crush. In my half we institute 16 weeks of paid parental leave, universal childcare, & a restored child tax credit. Let's see which has more babies.

@theistinthought I met Ben Sasse. I've read his books, and I've been connected with the seminary where he studied. What he said in these interviews is consistent with his life and thought. Of course impelling death brings a new dimension. But I don't see ulterior motives.

@theistinthought If I did that while working with numbers, it would be disastrous. 😁 But I can listen to music, podcasts, or sermons while I drive (as long as I know where I'm going).
