My friend in Hylia, it's a game. I don't think the devs meant any malice by their creation. Hylians were just meant to be a straight up interpretation on medieval Europeans, complete with Knights/castles and princesses. The Gerudo are inspired by desert warrior tropes from ancient Arabia/Middle East (scimitars, veils, nomadic desert life, the whole exotic "other" aesthetic that tons of old stories used). They were just mirroring real world medieval dynamics. All told/seen thru the lens of Japanese storytelling looking from the outside in. Taking inspiration from real historical things like medieval Europe clashing with Asian/Arabian powers during crusades, trade wars, or whatever in the past. But that's literally how fantasy has worked forever. Contrasting cultures clashing for drama. Think Lord of the Rings with Gondor vs. distant empires, or every RPG ever. They also use similar tropes that mirror our real world.

ok so just another thread about how the Gerudo are problematic by a white person." Yes, I am Brazilian, but I will remind you that my grandparents were born in Syria and Lebanon before they moved to Brazil. I will also point you to my friend @skittybitty_yt's video, which also features SWANA voices.

Okay, now what? The Gerudo's portrayal is rooted in Orientalism, yes. Do we want the Gerudo to be removed from the game? No. What we advocate for is that Nintendo handles their culture with the care that it deserves, without resorting to harmful stereotypes, and listens to SWANA voices.

@SlLENTPRINCESS It's an acceptable form of racism and there's absolutely nothing objectionable with fictional tropes informed by it, so what could you possibly even be trying to say here?
