Happy birthday, @DrMayaAngelou!
Angelou's poetry reminded generations of women that they are capable, beautiful, and unstoppable.
Mrs. Obama spoke in 2014 at Wake Forest University about how Angelou's words inspired her: "She told us that our worth has nothing to do with what the world might say. Instead, she said, 'Each of us comes from the creator trailing wisps of glory.' She reminded us that we must each find our own voice, decide our own value, and then announce it to the world with all the pride and joy that is our birthright as members of the human race."

On this day, 58 years ago, my father, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was taken from us by assassination while still fully committed to confronting poverty, racism, and militarism. Even now, the truth of who he was and what he stood for is too often softened or reshaped into something easier to accept.
But my father was not a convenient symbol. He was a man of deep conviction, disciplined courage, and unwavering love. He gave his life calling this nation to confront injustice and choose a better way.
Today, I reflect not only on the pain of his assassination, but also on the power of his witness. His life, his sacrifice, and his commitment to nonviolence still call us to reject hate, resist injustice, and create the Beloved Community.
On this day, I hold both the weight of that loss and the responsibility of that legacy.

On #MorningJoe earlier today, I spoke with Rabbi Matthew Gewirtz about the deeper meaning of Passover and Easter.
These are not just holidays. They are rooted in struggle, in survival, and in the belief that we can come out of what tries to hold us down.
At a time when division is rising, we must remember our shared history and stand together. We cannot move forward if we forget where we come from.

How will the Trump team explain this without a coherent strategic plan?
The Washington Post@washingtonpost
President Trump officially requested $1.5 trillion in spending for the Pentagon next fiscal year, which would be the largest defense budget in U.S. history. The White House’s 2027 fiscal year budget proposes a 42 percent increase in defense spending. wapo.st/4maYcD8

My father did not just give speeches. He offered a framework for how to live, how to lead, and how to confront injustice without losing our humanity.
“I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” was not simply a moment of reflection. It was a call to remain steadfast in the work, to organize, to build, and to act with courage and discipline.
If we are serious about honoring his legacy, we cannot stop at quoting him. We must study him.
I encourage you to spend time with his writings, his speeches, and his teachings, and to apply them in your daily life.

When you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing. When you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - When you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you. When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - You may know that your society is doomed.

Today, on Good Friday, we mark a day of sacrifice. Some New Yorkers will abstain from eating; others will spend hours without speaking.
Faith, the Bible tells us, is belief in the things unseen. That belief is what will guide so many of our neighbors in solemn reflection and reverence.
I wish all those observing Good Friday a blessed day of peace.

Fueled by his fear of losing the upcoming midterm elections and based wholly on unfounded allegations of voter fraud, President Trump is attempting to unilaterally limit mail voting and threaten elections officials with criminal prosecution.
This is just another unlawful attempt to restrict voting.
We’re suing.
